Newcastle vs. EvertonNewcastle remained foot of the table after a disappointing home defeat to Everton. Everton broke the deadlock after 24 minutes, Rodwell heading in at the near post from Drenthe's corner. Seamus Coleman doubled their lead after Louis Saha had flicked on another Royston Drenthe cross from the left. Everton made it three just before the whistle, Rodwell found the net for the second time and Drenthe, got a second assist with another superb cross. Everton put the game beyond doubt in the 55th minute, Saha got in behind a faltering offside trap and kept his composure to extend Everton's lead. Newcastle scored a consolation in the 71st minute, Rodwell headed a long throw clear; to Taylor 25 yards from goal and the full-back chested the ball down and smashed in a shot which arched over Howard before hitting the underside of the crossbar and bouncing in. Drenthe nearly got a third assist in the 79th but Tim Krul stopped Leon Osman's powerful header.
Things look bleak for Newcastle. They're six points from safety. Uk massive takes his side to Manchester City and Manchester United on successive Saturdays after the international break, with Chelsea visiting Sports Direct Arena the following week. Also, the Newcastle manager will have been concerned at the sight of influential midfielder Yohan Cabaye limping off with a groin injury. Newcastle 1-4 Everton.
Arsenal vs. West BromWest Brom nearly scored in 5 minutes, Steven Reid found himself unmarked in the box but his header was easily saved by home keeper Wojciech Szczesny. They took the lead in the 24th minute, Graham Dorrans effort went low into the corner. West Brom remained on top but failed to convert it into goals. West Brom came out fighting after the break and were rewarded in the 53rd, Graham Dorrans this time scuffing his shot but it found its way goalward. Arsenal looked like they might be improving and their goal was disallowed when Van Persie's tap-in was given offside. But West Brom made it 3-0, in the last minute of injury time, James Morrison scored from a free-kick after Alex Song unfairly brought down George Thorne. Arsenal 0-3 West Brom.
Aston Villa vs. NorwichAston Villa were looking to got top as they trailed Sunderland on goal difference alone. Norwich dominated the opening 15 minutes and came close in the 7th; but Andy Pilkington's crossbar rattled the crossbar. The game calmed down after that and Aston Villa were beginning to pick up before the half-time break. Aston Villa came out attacking after the break and were rewarded. All the hard work was done by strike partner Agbonlahor, who played in a superb low cross from the left to present Bent with a chance he could not really miss from four yards out. Aston Villa doubled their lead in the 73rd minute, a weak back pass by Barnett gave Ruddy no chance and he could only watch on in horror as Agbonlahor nipped in first and fired into an empty net. Norwich bounced back instantly in the 75th, an excellent ball in by Grant Holt on the left deceived everyone except Morison, who arrived at the far post to head home. The game had just one goal in it and both sides nerves were on edge. A run from Charles N'Zogbia was cut out by the Norwich defence but Agbonlahor picked up the loose ball and swung in another superb cross, which found Bent six yards out and he side-footed over the bar. But that miss wasn't too costly as the full time whistle went on the resulting goal kick. Aston Villa 2-1 Norwich.
Blackburn vs. ChelseaChelsea started the game off well and came close to scoring in just 3 minutes but Fernando Torres fired wastefully over for the visitors from close range. And they were made to pay. Blackburn scored in the 34th minute when a flowing move involving Junior Hoilett and Mauro Formica presented Yakubu with a golden chance from close range and he took it to give Blackburn the lead before the break. They doubled their lead on 50 minutes - Cech spilling a free-kick by Morten Gamst Pedersen into the path of substitute Hanley who punished the Chelsea keeper. Blackburn put the game safe on the hour mark - Givet's run left him 1 on 1 and his shot sneaked inside the far post. Chelsea did go home with a goal. A delightful cross by Ivanovic found the unmarked England midfielder on the edge of the six-yard area, Lampard nodded past Robinson in attempt to make the scoreline respectable.
Chelsea need to turn things around as they sink into the drop-zone and a disappointing draw with Genk will leave manager callmecommander left looking for new inspiration. Blackburn 3-1 Chelsea
Liverpool vs. SwanseaLiverpool and Swansea cancelled each other in the first half and chances were few and far between and quality was lacking. Swansea tried to turn the game around after the break but Liverpool keeper Jose Reina's point-blank reactions were supreme following a good move down the Swansea left. Liverpool's defense regrouped and looked like might hang out for a draw but Swansea scored in the 89th minute. Wayne Routledge beat two defenders before firing an inswinging cross into the danger zone and Danny Graham nodded in for Swansea's first ever win at Anfield. Liverpool 0-1 Swansea.
Man Utd vs. SunderlandBoth sides showed attacking intent through the match but neither could find the shots. Both sides had late penalty appeals turned down, Ferdinand brought down Ji Dong-Won but Howard Mason pointed for a free-kick which was wasted. Danny Wellbeck and Bardsley came together as well but the referee claimed the challenge was fair. Man Utd 0-0 Sunderland.
QPR vs. Man CityQPR broke the deadlock in the first 10 minutes when Bothroyd rose highest to head in Joey Barton's curling free-kick from the right. QPR carried on to attack and came close to 2 goals in the opening quarter of an hour but goalkeeper Joe Hart saved Jamie Mackie's long-range shot. Man City found an equaliser in the 39th minute. QPR defender Ferdinand had earlier denied Dzeko with a superb block, but this time the striker got the better of the defender, cutting inside him after being found by Milner down the right, and firing in low past Paddy Kenny. After the break, Man City took the lead when Silva neatly took Dzeko's cross from the right in his stride before lashing the ball past Kenny in the 56th minute. Man City would have made it 3 in injury time had a post not denied Sergio Aguero's 25-yard strike.
Wolves vs. WiganWolves began the game on the front foot and were denied in the 6th minute by a double save by Al Habsi. O'Hara's initial shot was saved and Ward will be absolutely gutted that Al Habsi athletically reached out to block a second effort on goal. Wigan's defense tightened up but Wolves broke through in injury time in the opening half - Wolves sweeping down on the counter attack and Doyle crossed for O'Hara to slot home the opener. In the second half, Wolves' dominance continued but wasn't rewarded until the 90th minute when Edwards was on hand to finish after Al-Habsi had shown great athleticism to save efforts from both Hunt and O'Hara. Bolton vs. StokeBolton walked over Stoke in the joint largest win of the season. It took them 15 minutes to break the deadlock. After Begovic was pulled up for picking up a Glenn Whelan back pass, Klasnic stole the ball from the City goalkeeper's hands and took the free-kick, allowing Davies the simplest of tasks to side-foot the ball home. Potters boss dazza2008 was furious, seemingly both with the original award of the free-kick and the fact referee Webb let Wanderers take it so swiftly.But his afternoon was to get much worse, and his fury was soon directed at his own team for an abject display.
In the 27th minute Eagles made it 2-0 when he controlled Begovic's blundered clearance and fizzed a brilliant low strike past the keeper and into the bottom corner. Half-time came too soon for Bolton as they played a lacking Stoke who were sorely missing injured Matthew Etherington and seemingly tired after a midweek Europa League fixture.
In the second half, play resumed and so did the whitewash. Eagles and Mark Davies combined brilliantly to set up the third goal, laying on the ball for Klasnic, who found the bottom corner with a fierce first-time strike via the fingertips of Begovic in just 45 seconds after the restart. The imposing figure of Kevin Davies then played his part in the fourth when he found striker partner Klasnic and Eagles ran on to the through-ball and cheekily lifted the ball past a bemused Begovic in the 57th minute. Bolton made it five in the 72nd minute Klasnic diverting in David Wheater's header following a corner. There was a still time for a sixth, Joe Riley capped off a fine Premier League debut when Tuncay whipped the ball along the box and he poked it in. Bolton 6-0 Stoke.
Fulham vs. SpursSpurs broke the deadlock in just 13 minutes - Kyle Walker's burst down the right ended with a lay-off to Lennon, and his cross was pushed by Mark Schwarzer into the path of Bale. The Wales international's powerful effort from an angle struck Baird, who could do little about stopping the ball cannoning off him into the net. Gareth Bale was still awarded the goal despite the deflection. Fulham tried to turn the game around but had no results for their efforts at half-time. The second half started off dully but Fulham realised they needed to attack and did so yet they didn't score it Kaboul was helpless as King's headed clearance from a corner cannoned off his team-mate and over the line in the 62nd minute. Shoop's side showed spirit and scored for themselves in the 73rd, in a chaotic goalmouth scramble, Kyle Walker appeared to handle the ball inside his own area and Moussa Dembele stepped up to bring home the bacon. Tottenham very nearly found an injury time equaliser but with Friedel produced a one-handed stop to keep out Brede Hangeland's header. Fulham 2-1 Tottenham.
