fun thread to read :)

I'm an hedonist, with few knowledge about this vineyard or that cƩpage (basically I drink, eat but won't remember shit even though it's my twentieth tasting and you explain to me the specifics, again...).

IMO, mainly based on my approach (so utterly subjective), the true beauty of our French tradition doesn't lie in the top-notch names but rather in the small productors that are able to match those established productions. A couple of blind tasting would definetely convince you about that too (not saying that you said anything different though).

As for cheeses, Italia is wonderful, but my biased opinion tend to find a bigger range of "flavor" in our national production:
- ComtƩ
- Cantal
- Brie
- Munster
- Saint-nectaire
- Camembert and so on...

One of my closest friend is currently trying to open a cheese museum in Paris, and use to host tasting blending unconventional marriages (cheese and whiskey, cheese and rum...). Fun fact : almost everybody picked two English cheeses to be the best to go with during those tastings => beauty can be found everywhere !

The UK produces over 750 types of cheese. But you really can't beat high quality and well aged Cheddar and Stilton.

"ā™”ā™”ā™” One love cheese world ā™”ā™”ā™”" . Next we go from Dutch Old Gouda to the Belgian private stash from the monks of the Maredsous Abbey (real hard to get - ugggh, those monks tsssssss)

But the problem with Cheddar is that the name covers a huge quantity of cheese ranging to top quality to industrial rubber. And guess what, the ones we associate with Cheddar in the rest of the world - outside UK - is almost always the latter. It's like comparing a French Chateau Migraine to the best Grand Cru ClassƩe Paulliac..but yes - i agree fun thread to read. it also makes me wondering who will win this - there is a big audience now

ACES vs LHDD; who will be cheese and who will be wine :D

Iā€™m from Wisconsin in the USA. We are the state of all 50 US states most known for our cheeses. Iā€™ve been spoiled in that regard compared to most Americans (although Iā€™ve had some good cheese from up state NY). I visited south France and Italy and they did have some excellent cheeses there. Around where I live there are many specific stores that just sell cheese and they tend to have some of the best cheeses.

As a Minnesotan, I confess we tease the Wisconsin people about all their cheeses. In fact, we call them cheeseheads. But like quarreling siblings, to outsiders we will always defend them and their cheese. Wisconsin cheese ROCKS! Anyone who says different will have my piranha troops knocking on their door.

Actually, you need to withdraw one point from our total since we got a one-point penalty for not respecting the 6-week deadline.

We understand that due to our irrational behaviour, we jeopardized the integrity of the game by not having all the invites accepted in time for set 2, and that those 5 to 10 extra hours a couple of our players took may cause big trouble to the unfolding of the whole competition.

I personally hoped (and still a bit) that your leaders would have intervened, granting us forgiveness for our lateness sins, but seems unlikely now.

Now let get this draw !

Sorry mate but it's not for us to intervene when it comes to enforcing the rules of a tournament, otherwise what's the point of having them in the first place?

Well, donche remark probably come from the fact that we'd definitely have asked CD not to give you a penalty had the situation been reverse.
But you're right, you don't have to say anything.

It doesn't matter if you HAD asked us not to give ACES a penalty, we still would have. It's NOT up to the clans to decide, and shouldn't be. When that was asked in the events before Cayman and I took over, it was not the right thing to do and it's WHY we rewrote the rule the way we did. Clans in CC11 and CC12 were literally punished because they did not want to be the bad guys and dole out punishments, but it should never have been left up to them. This is a tournament rule and will be and should be enforced by the tournament organizers.

I am truly sorry that you guys were late, and yes it was only by hours, but that just doesn't matter. If we had let this go like so many other things were let go, we'd be hypocrites. And also, where would it end? Next year someone is 8 hours late and asks that to be okay; the year following someone is 15 hours late; and so on and so on. As my good friend and fellow CD fishydance says, "A deadline isnā€™t a deadline if itā€™s not enforced" and she is absolutely right.

I agree to that, whoever was in charge was doing some really stupid things at the time if it was, as Cayman worded it "CD team forced the clan's opponent to decide if they wanted punishments to happen. "

My guess is CD's were cowards back then and didn't want to have to assume to be the bad guy.
And the solution you found is to be a coward now and hide behind a very strict rule basically saying : " it's not up to me it's up to the rule, I can't do anything else".
A bit like what you did for that other issue we had this year
viewtopic.php?f=441&t=240459&start=25

Where I said

I would rather that the CD examine the situation and the impact of the game rather than just have such a restrictive written rule.

And I'm still on that line.
You're making rule are restrictive as possible so that you don't have a say in it.
Let me say I think that's a bit of a bullshit move, since you're the one making the rule anyway.

So when you had an issue in the CC11 & 12, rather than deciding to enforce the bad rule that we currently have, you should've decided to change the rule.
Because this rule was there for years, but it was applied with leniency, which is what make that rule acceptable.
Now you're enforcing it by the minute, then it just became stupid.
Because, seriously, who's hurt by anyone being a couple of hours late ?
When you make rule you should ask yourself what's the purpose of the rule.
is that rule here to be able to gift war to clan that are against people that have time management issue ?
or is the rule here just so that we can have a smooth and quick event ? because if that's the latter, really doesn't matter to have people 5 hours late to accept an invitation.
My whole point being : if no one care, why there need to be a game penalty which can totally change the outcome of the tournament so it has serious impact

Allow me go back to strict rule that you decided to have for the other issue as for this one :
Having rules that give you literally no room for punishment and discussion is a bad thing, every situation should be considered independently because every situation is different.
Rules should give you general order of things and a frame of what should and should not be, but then CD should just be able to make fair decision on case to case basis.
Which, especially for the other case where you decided that running out of time would be a straight rematch regardless of the situation is really silly, because really it's all about the situation around it. But because you don't have the courage to decide, you went that way.

It doesn't matter if you HAD asked us not to give ACES a penalty, we still would have.

And doesn't matter whether the penalty would stand or not - we would still have ask for it to be removed regardless of the known or unknown outcome of the request. It's a matter of principle and fair-play, Just FYI. Pretty sure we even had the case in the past already.

Also, that's a one point penalty on our total, your wording. So what happen when we have a draw ?

and, as I've asked Caymannew in PM. How come you don't announce those penalty in war thread or CC event ?
How many time did clans get a point penalty in the CC13 and CC14 ? - are we the first ?

I'm going to wait on Cayman and a discussion with other CDs before I can give a real reply, not just my opinion.

But one thing I want to make clear is that regarding the rule change about remaking a game that was brought up, we read what you wrote, Donelladan and not only read it, but agreed you made a very valid point, and we are still 100% planning to have a CAT vote on that before Conquerors Cup 15. The rule was amended for CC14 to say within "24 hours" after a quick poll was given to the still active clans in the event. viewtopic.php?p=5325546#p5325546

Also, please understand that when rules are lenient, it causes more controversy. We are not being cowardly by making certain rules more strict and having specific punishments laid out, we are being proactive.

We 100% would address any penalties given in the forum so all could see. You are the first clan to be past the 6 week deadline in CC13 or CC14.

Afaik, you agreed to change the deadline to report, you didn't agree to make the rule a case to case basis situation - it's still the same rule only the time frame that changed - which is better, for sure. But it's not what I was talking about in my post above, I was talking about the fact that you make the rule as tight as possible to not have to judge on the situation - which I don't like.
