the small map has 5B, which is correct. the large map has B5, but has been corrected in v28 on the beta site.

The code needs to be corrected so all 8 TERMS are +2 to match the art on both maps. The code for TERMS is currently +3. Ian please change to +2 in the code. Everything else looks good.

Thanks,

HitRed

Question / Idea

Should we make 8 of the Green Keys random starting. No longer starting neutral?

Players might find it more interesting. Likely ".", 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, "/", "-"

I didn't include 1, 5 because they can attack 2 Display Characters.

"/" and "-" would be +1 beginning but that would be interesting. Small Unbalanced drop.

here are two updated xml files. the v28a xml differs from the v28 xml in two respects: i removed all blank lines and replaced all "-<" with "<". v28b updates the terms auto-deploy bonuses from +3 to +2.

if u're happy that v28b does what u want, then i'll load it to the beta site.

does v28c look better?

best regards

The Map Inspect has gone missing or doesn't work. Can you check on that? Without it I can only look line by line. Not efficient.

Thanks,

although the map inspect link is currently broken, clicking the Test XML link produces no errors and we can easily revert to v26 if needed.

Summary: 0 errors and 0 warnings detected in Pi-School_v28c.xml (11 continents, 44 territories)

pi-school v28c uploaded successfully on date 2020-06-16 at time 17:50 CCT to the beta site!

we'll simply have to do more beta site testing than normal before releasing to live beta.

here's Pi-School_v28d.xml to amend the bonus name from "Four Character Displays" to "4 Display Characters".

if it looks good to u, then i'll upload it to the beta site.

while clans and tournament players are likely to avoid using pi-school as their home map if u do this, i believe that reducing to n1 the starting neutrals on all of the green keys will serve to speed up the early game.

there are currently no active pi-school games. i'm expecting bW to update the live version to v28d within a few hours, so that any pi-school game started from tomorrow will use it.

Game 20216779 was the first to use the v28d xml. terms received an auto-deploy bonus of +2 troops and the 4 Display Characters bonus was awarded correctly, both as expected.

barring any late discoveries, i expect the live beta period to end after we see a decent number of v28 games.

after maps move into live beta or full play, it is the responsibility of mapmakers to ensure that they respond to further feedback in a timely and constructive manner. to this end, it will be helpful during the live beta stage for the primary mapmaker to nominate a map trustee to act temporarily on his or her behalf should it happen that, for an extended period at some point in the future, he or she can no longer be contacted by the foundry.

I plan to be around till quenching of Pi-School. Please post any questions or concerns. The map is math based so it should be very logical to understand.

I will ask EBConquer as he clearly has working knowledge of the map. He, and if needed the Foundry Foreman, has my permission to edit any XML or Graphics as needed.

of the 5 freestyle v28d games played so far, 4 were won by objective. unusually, no sequential 2-player games have yet been started.

the only very slight fault in the xml that i can see is that the losing condition text has a full stop after "enrollment in Pi-School" when the objective text does not.

It has been a joy to play Pi-School with the updated +2 terms! Games with 3, 4, 5, or more players really rock. Lots of different strategies to be seen. I am very happy with the changes and I see more new players trying out Pi-School. :D

1 on 1 games are not that exciting. Just average.

It's been 2 years with no feedback, approaching 1000 games played.

What is still needed to quench this map?

Shannon Apple wrote:Mad, I asked that question a long time ago because I quit the site for a while and came back to see the same maps there. I was told that they needed to keep some maps in "Beta" because of the medal.

Sure, the underlying issue is that there are no new maps being made. And I can tell you, part of the reason was some of the snotty people who frequented that forum. They couldn't be nice and steer creators in the right direction. If people shoot your ideas down in a not nice way, you are less likely to come back with another idea. Some have a thicker skin and take harsh critique, others not so much. Critique is completely fine, so long as it's constructive. If one can't be constructive, then they shouldn't be giving critiques. Maybe it would be different now, there are less of those people around.

I'm a graphic designer professionally. I absolutely COULD create maps, but I had no motivation to do so because of how people behaved in that section.
This post was new to me, and would explain why we haven't seen any movement these past few years. @iancanton, can you confirm whether or not this is correct?
