Community Guidelines

Post by TeeGee »

Common sense prevails - if you are intentionally or continually making this community less enjoyable for others, you may be removed from it. It's that simple. This applies to any part of the site where interaction takes place; in Forums, Private Messages, Live Chat and Game Chat

Rules, precedents and customs from other communities don't apply.
  • Neither do the By-Laws from the Podunk 3rd district. Believe it or not, Conquer Club is a private business. Just because something works one way in another community does not mean that is how it will work here. We're usually less strict and you can get away with a lot, but that doesn't mean that you can pull the "This is how it works everywhere else" card and expect to get away with it. Really. This is not "everywhere else."
  • In the same vein, just because you are here, does not mean you MUST be here. This is a business and CC does reserve the right to promote or discourage any kind of behavior it sees fit. Claiming your first amendment right to free speech to post about the colour of your poop last night will not fly. If a mod or admin specifically say you shouldn't be doing something, regardless of if it's specifically spelled out in the rules, or if you think that they are stupid, it still means don't do it. If you don't like the rules here, google.com will help you find somewhere more appropriate.
Be nice or leave

It's fine if you don't like this site or the way it is run...find another one with better rules, start another one and make your own rules, abuse another one and try to get them to change their rules, but don't complain about the rules here. :D

Community Guidelines

1. Do NOT be intentionally destructive - If you do anything that harms or can be perceived to harm this site you may be removed from it.

2. Do NOT post personal information about others without their direct consent.

3. Do not push boundaries - If you are asked to stop by a member of the moderation team then STOP. Do not continue and do NOT persist.
If you feel they are wrong, approach their team leader. If you still disagree then ask an admin (by filing an e-ticket).

4. Do not incite, conduct or encourage the conduct of illegal activities.

5. Do not promote without permission any business or product outside of this website.

6. The internet has more than enough pornography without it being here. Let's keep it that way. This includes any links to pornography, pictures, etc. If you are unsure, then don't risk it.

7. Racism is not permitted on this site in ANY form. This includes ALL forms of racism (e.g. even if your country is at war with another or "reverse" racism).

Just because it offends you does not make it against the site rules or illegal. CC has a foe feature and we recommend you use it

8. Account Sitting is allowed with the stipulation that the account babysitter is not your opponent in any current game. It is common courtesy to announce in game chat that another player will take your turn(s) during your absence. Babysitters should NOT start or join new games (except for ongoing tournaments), post in forums, read or send private messages, participate in Global or Live Chat. Furthermore, you should only take another player's turn if they are in danger of missing a turn, not for the purpose of gaining a tactical advantage. Account Sitting is only temporary and not to be mistaken for assigning someone to look after your account permanently.

For circumstances when an account has been AWOL for over a month, it would be best to stop taking turns for it to be fair for everyone else who makes an effort to play their own account. The tournament organizer must also be informed.

Also, it goes without saying to not share your account. We do not condone people hopping from one account to another as this is no different from someone who has multiple accounts. Your account is your own responsibility so avoid having someone as a 'permanent sitter' so you can (conveniently) not take your turn thinking that another player will always be there to use your account for you.

Chat Rules:

First and foremost, the rules of Live Chat start with the current Community Guidelines.
However, because Global Chat and MCHAT is a world of its own, a few specific things relate to these areas of the site:
  • BOTH GLOBAL AND MCHAT are automated, it cannot be reset or wiped manually. As the chat continues, it scrolls off the screen.
Please REMEMBER that what you type here is seen by the bulk of the site when they log in, for a considerable amount of time.
KEEP IT CLEAN. THERE WILL BE NO TOLLERENCE FOR BREAKING CHAT RULES IN THESE AREAS
Specifics
Bigotry:
  • Not tolerated at all; NO FORMS of bigotry are permitted in Chat anytime anywhere.
Spam:
  • Not tolerated in any form whether smilies, text, or characters.
Flaming:
  • Will not be tolerated.
Links:
  • Links that force a user to automatically join a game are not allowed. In addition, links to sites containing nudity or pornography are NOT allowed. All users are responsible for any and all material on a link. Ignorance is not an excuse, so post links with great caution as any posted links are treated on a case by case basis as far as the discipline ladder is concerned.
Sexual Conversations:
  • Sexual innuendo and light conversations can be entertaining, but do not take it very far. Minors do use this site, so please refrain from sexually explicit material,
Other Infractions for Chat include:
  • Cyberbullying/Harassment
  • Use Of Personal Information
  • Sitter Abuse
  • Trolling/Baiting
  • Ignoring Moderator Instructions
  • Being Generally Annoying
o Note: This is not an exhaustive list of Chat Rules. Please remember the general Community Guideline to not be annoying.
Moderating Techniques
Moderating Techniques
Chatters (or Chat Mods) are the ones who are in charge of keeping the public chat rooms fun for all the users. They are volunteers and members of the site first, but if you have a question or concern, please ask one of them.
  • o Because of the dynamic and always-going nature of chat, all rules and guidelines are interpreted according to the situation solely at the Moderator's discretion. Moderator directions and/or decisions made are to be followed without question. If a user has a problem with the direction or decision that the moderator made, the user is not to disrupt the room in complaint but to address the moderator directly through private messaging. If you feel the situation was not resolved sufficiently, you may forward the problem to the Head Chatter or any of the Admin. Be sure to include logs of the attempted resolution (screenshots are preferred as they are better evidence of the chat history).

o Chatters are expected to adhere to the rules and their own warnings in an interest of fairness. If you feel that a Chatter is abusing their position, please inform the Head Chatter or an Admin; don't try to cause a riot over it in the public rooms.
Blocks and Bans
Warnings:
  • A chat mod may give a warning for violating any of the Chat Rules. When a warning is given, all the members are required to heed the warning.
Blocks:
  • GLOBAL CHAT
    • A BLOCK in Global Chat may vary in duration from 1 hour - 48 hours.
  • MCHAT
    • As MCHAT is located in the Forums, any BLOCK here will for a minimum of 24 hours and will also come with a FORUM BAN for that duration as well
Vacations:
  • Repeatedly ignoring warnings Blocks, will earn a user a vacation. Vacations start at 24 hours and can quickly increase after that. Don't press your luck any further.
Permaban:
  • If a user continues to abuse their time in Live Chat, their privilege to use the feature will be removed.
Infractions and Penalties
Chat Penalties will be issued on a CASE BY CASE basis, at the discretion of the Moderation Team.
BELOW IS A GENERAL GUIDE TO ANY POTENTIAL MAXIMUM PENALTIES
Penalties should not be taken as expected, or a basis to debate decisions.

Major Offence Penalties:
  • 1st Offense - Automatic kick & 24 Hour Ban
  • 2nd Offense - 1 Week Ban
  • 3rd Offense - 1 to 3 Month Ban

Useful Information for Chat
Global Chat

Global Chat FAQ’s
FAQs
Q. How do I turn ON/OFF Global Chat?
A. Under the Personal Menu go to SETTINGS, look at the bottom of the Settings options (Under Chat Settings) and set 'Show Global Chat' to 'Yes' or 'No'.

Q. Can I minimise this Chat Bar?
A. YES, to do so click on the Chat Bar on the left side of the Global Chat and it will slide away. To open it back click on it again and it will reopen

Q. Why doesn’t this chat have features for posting text in bold, italics or colours?
A. Please keep in mind that this is a simple chat program that bigwham has written for the site to allow you greater communication in different areas of the site. As a result is not feature rich but will, in time, be improved so you can go ahead with your suggestions for improvement as well.

Q. Why are there no time-stamps for when messages are posted.
A. Again because this is a basic chat, time-stamps are not yet included.

Q. How can I block/ban a user from Global Chat?
A. Only Chat moderators can block/ban a user but you can mute a user so you won’t see his/her comments (mute works for bots also)

Q. How long will my mute last?
A. The user will remain muted for you until you either un-mute them or you log off.

Q. Can I mute someone for longer?
A. Using the sites "FOE" feature will block all chat from a user until the FOE is lifted.

Q. My messages won’t post, I get “Message cannot be posted”. Did my chat break?
A. There are certain words that are blocked from Global Chat. If your message contains one or more of those words the entire message will be blocked from posting. You’ll have to delete the offending word or words and then post your message.
Try posting a different message. If that still doesn’t work you’re either still being too profane/bigoted or you have been blocked/banned from Global Chat.

Q. I don’t see my posts but I’m not getting any error messages
A. Your chat may not have automatically scrolled with the messages. Try scrolling down.

Q. I’ve tried scrolling as you suggested but Its not scrolling further down and I still don’t see my messages. Why are they not posting?
A. Your messages may actually be posting but for some reason your chat hasn’t shown updated posts… try reloading the page or opening a new page.

Q. Why can’t I see global Chat from the Forums?
A.
The Forums and some other pages are on a different template to the other site pages. Unfortunately this makes it difficult to integrate Global Chat into those pages at this time.

Q. A user has violated the guidelines but a moderator is not there or did not deal with it properly.
A. If you have a problem with a user’s posts or a moderator’s treatment of a situation please take screenshots of the violation/problem and send them to the Head Chatter (currently Razorvich) along with your explanation of the situation. It can then be investigated and appropriately dealt with.
How do I report a Chat Violation?
Reports
Chat Violation
If you see something that should be reported, here is how to do it:

Contact any of the Chatters. If they are online, they will investigate immediately.

If there is no Chat Moderator online, send a Private Message, preferably with a screenshot of the offending chat to any of the Chat Team.
Please be sure to submit the whole conversation, so things can be taken into context. (This is important)

The C&A forum is not the correct place for chat violation reports.

Chat Violation Appeal
If you are unhappy on how a Moderator has handled a case, send a Private Message to the Team leader. (currently Razorvich )

If you are still not satified with the outcome, you can file an E-Ticket direct to Admin for review.
