I have a baby due to be born any day now, and I'm likely to be away for a good day or two. At most, this should be a two week vacation from the ladder, but I'm expecting less than a week.

You can, but Doc's wife is getting ready to have a baby anytime. He sent a note to us yesterday informing us...You will be next when he returns.

Sounds like a slacker to me. ;)

Legit question about situations like this: How long can a person 'take a break?' I think there should be some rule where they are either removed or have to forfeit after a certain amount of time. 2 weeks, a month, 3 months? I don't know the time, but there should be something I think.

I have an idea, but I don't know if it would be too complicated for celliotti to adminster. Let me know what you think.

  • Every week that you spend on vacation, you drop 1 position on the list.
  • If you reach the bottom you are eliminated permanently. As long as you don't reach bottom, you can come back.

That to me sounds unfair to those who are close to the bottom, I think. But some such scheme would probably be the way to go so that people don't take a break too long.

Guys, let me nip this in the bud real quickā€¦Docā€™s original post is quoted above. It was from September 9. Rule #19a states, ā€œA player may request a hiatus from the Ladder if they go on vacation or holiday by stating so on the Ladder thread.
a. This hiatus cannot last more than fourteen (14) consecutive days. The player on ā€œVacationā€ or ā€œHiatusā€ can be passed by players who successfully win their own challenges. For example, Iā€™m #15 and I go on vacation. While Iā€™m gone, #16 and #17 win their challenges and pass me, I then drop down accordingly.ā€

Today is Day 7. Doc expected to be gone less than a week, but for those of us who have kids know they donā€™t always come on our time table. Plus, with this being his first child (I believe), he probably wants to spend some time with his new family.

He will have the 14 days as he requested for vacation.

Since Doc_Brown is also #1 and no one can pass him up, chap_crap will have first crack at him. T4mcr53s2 and asbks have not mentioned anything about wanting to move up, so if they want dibs on the winner, I'll allow it.

I think the discussion was just about what happens if someone is gone for an extended period of time. Not just in this instance, but all instances. After 14 days, they are open for challenge? And if they do not respond, they forfeit? Is that the process? So, they just move down one spot at a time forever until they reach the bottom?

After 14 days, Macbone and I would discuss the "consequences/ramifications" and would post it accordingly. Every situation is different and would be considered with grace and understanding. I don't want to give examples of what the decisions would be, but Mac and I would be fair and just.

Let's be a little bit more patient and see when Doc returns...again, if you just gave birth to your first child, would you come running back to CC??? I wouldn't.

PS...I had to nuke some of the quotes from this note, as per Forum rules...

I'm fine with that. I think you misunderstand me though. I'm fine with Doc taking time. I'm speaking in generalities, not specifically about Doc.

So, this is actually our 4th child, not our first. For information, our others are currently aged 4, 3, and 1, so draw what conclusions you will about me slacking... ;)

Things appear to be moving a lot slower than they were a week ago, so we might as well get started. Good luck chap!

chris.yfc has been playing great (and I have been out of luck in the beginning of both games ;) ), so he will win both and therefore the challenge against me. The games are not officially over, but I can't turn them anymore...

Congratulations on the newborn, Doc!

Everyone, please wait until your three games are finished before you post the results here. Doing so will make celliotti's job easier, and we'll probably include it in the Ladder guidelines.

Gotcha...The Ladder is updated. Babies always seem to have their own time table when they want to make their grand appearance. =D>

Also, when Doc's wife does go into labor, I'm authorizing him to have a sitter, as per Rule #18.

Mac and I have been talking about this...and it does cause a headache for me when someone posts something similar to, "It looks like I'm gonna lose/win my match against Billy Bob." Then...the underdog comes back and pulls out a win. It's happened a couple of times and is probably why I'm now going bald. =D>

Anyway, we'll be incorporating two new rules effective immediately. They are:

11. The WINNER of the match, must report the match result on the Ladder thread.

12. No matches can be reported until all games are completed (best 2 out of 3 games).

The other rule numbers would follow as normal.

Thanks!

Wait until all 3 even if 2 are won?

I still think it would be better to have a different topic for pure game results though

No...Once the overall match has been decided, whether it's 2-0 or 2-1, then the match can be reported...so if you win the first two, then go ahead and report it.

We talked about a different thread/topic for match results, but then it becomes an even bigger pain for me to have to go through two threads to get challenges and match results.
