I find there is nothing more annoying than during an assassin game, a player kills the wrong target. Although there is a big flashing target players still get it wrong. Therefore as well as the points lost in the game, an additional penalty of 100 points should be deducted from the player at fault. For being just a bit silly
How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
Hopefully this will make players think a bit, and increase the number of assassin games available.
A possibly better way to do it would be taking each individual's points off the killer. So instead of the winner taking my 20 points for someone's screwup they would all be taken from the offender. Now that could possibly make it a more attractive style.
Personally though this is at the bottom of the totem pole suggestions-wise. When you think of the thought processes, or lack thereof, behind taking out the wrong target, i hardly think a points penalty will save many games.

I like this idea even better. Why have you not suggested this before?
well maybe its better that each player when start to play get notification in game log, who remind hem who its target, and that with kill someon other will lost a game, offcourse these will be hidden like in fog games, and only player who its in turn to play can se hes own message.
2010-11-27 17:20:31 - Incrementing game to round 3
2010-11-27 21:44:52-notification: yours target are green, killing other opponet will cause imediatly defeat
2010-11-27 21:44:52 - callmefrank received 3 troops for 4 regions
2010-11-27 21:44:55 - callmefrank deployed 3 troops on ?
2010-11-27 21:44:56 - callmefrank assaulted ? from ? and conquered it from CrashAWC
2010-11-27 21:45:06 - callmefrank ended the turn and got spoils
these only can see in these example callmefrank, and all other players can only see

its enough that in first turn each player get these notification to understand what hes playing, and if again someon kill wrong target, then you play with not so smart people. then you need to avoide playing with these players.
I could see a problem in nuclear assassin games. The time may come when you're forced to kill another target. I don't think you should be punished for that.

you can miss a turn or start turn and don't deploy and let the hour run out

I personally like qwert's idea better.
Have a little reminder in the game log on who your target is. And for players who have never ever played assassin before, they could possibly notice this and understand they are playing a different type of game. Because I know i've joined games when I was new that I didn't know were assassin. Luckily I noticed a weird blinking target and asked in the game log.

i killed the wrong target once, a loooong time ago
i read the instructions back then and it said to win the game you have to kill your target
so i figured if i killed someone then whoever had them would never be able to win the game
