Are any clans interested in a CC Olympics 2010?

Postby Beckytheblondie on Thu Mar 11, 2010 2:53 pm

Edit: After ranting about the lack in clan challenge variety, I decided that CLNBKY would like to organize and participate in a CC Olympics 2010 (similar to natewolfman's All around Clan Challenge or Nightstrike's CC Olympics 2008). If there is interest from even just 3 other clans, maybe we can get this ball bouncing?

We;ll agree to terms later, but I'd like to incorporate as many possible game types into this as is possible. This includes freestyle, manual and 6-8 player individual escalating games.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original post: My point is not to begin an argument with any of you about the advantages of team play; I'd lose that argument. But I raise what I believe to be an important issue. The current clans, their wars, competitions and challenges are all built upon the foundation of two-clan team play (Doubles, Triples, Quads). I understand the merits of team play... I know you're not a 'clan' if you can't work together, yada, yada, yada- it's clear.

But why must we continually operate under this framework. Why do the rules that govern actually govern?

I propose that multiple clans should be able to battle in a collective war...this happens in real life. 8 player doubles with four clans battling out seems interesting.

I propose that clans should engage in multiplayer singles battles, freestyle, terminator, assassin, and speed games. Why must the current constraints limit clan play so much? Is it because the governing oligarchy wants to play games that meet their preferences?

Are there any clans out there willing to break out of their present shackles to manumit themselves and appreciate all of the glorious games offered?

I know CLNBKY would open up its doors to 9 other players if we saw others interested in these options.

Kindest,

Bex

there have been clan tourneys that used 8 player dubs with 4 different clans participating... i think that the clan olympics actually did almost all of the things your saying that clans dont do, with the exception of speed games i think...

I think playing standard games as well is a good option in clan challenges. I see where you are going with this. Sadly I don't see certain clans jumping on with your idea though. The high and mighty will be in here soon, don't worry.

The Clan Olympics did this (like hwhr said) and it was fun while it lasted. It was FAR too much for one person to handle running though.

My biggest objection to playing 4 team dubs for example is that politics come in to play more than they should. I know, diplomacy is something that happens in war...this is a game, not a war. But if there is a 4 team game and team 1's clan is winning overall, you better believe that the other three clans are jumping on them to knock them down so they don't get another win. I guess that's my grudge with standard games too. Early leader syndrome kills you. It's always better to be in 2nd or 3rd place. There's just no fun in that for me.

When there are only two clans pitted together over a large number of games, it's all about which clan's strategies are better. Sure dice and drops can play a factor, but they get eliminated over the long haul. If you added two more clans to the mix, it's not about strategy, it's about diplomacy.

If there were another Clan Olympics, I think our clan would want to join. It was fun. I don't think we would accept a challenge like the one you described though Becky. I feel it would only create bad blood between clans.

Very good post and points, can only see grudges forming between clans that "team up" in these types, and its tough to really claim a victor in these type of games because there are so many different variables that affect these gameplays and the bad play on one clan's side could create opportunities for a team that would not normally win the same game heads-up. Also could never see a clan like THOTA participating if this counted toward the ladder because as Lubawski just pointed out, certain players/clans are stuck with targets on their backs...

You would also need to get multiple clans to agree on settings, how to score (does 2nd place get points toward the standings?), etc. It is often hard for 2 sides to agree on the rules for a clan war, let alone 4 or more.

Possible but unlikely in the next few months. How would you deal with the team games?

Can't I play maverick? I'm as good as any four players out there.

Seriously though, I would get nine guys and gals to join CLNBKY to play in the Olympics. I know there's a few wild cards out there. We'd be something like an underdog, but no one would want to play us in freestyle, I think we'd probably grab a couple of medals against even the most revered of challengers. If any clan wants a mini-Olympiad, you know, something like a trial run against CLNBKY, I'll get the crew together. It would be worth it to us.

So I've edited my original post to inquire if this could be a possibility for other clans to participate in if we separate it from clan standings, ladder and season play. Please let me know if your clan has anyone that can play something other than sequential casual team chained games....

Was that just a challenge? oh sheeeeeeeet.... I think it was.

you are going to be hard pressed to find a clan that will play freestyle or speed, even if it doesn't count for clan war, etc. the first rule of almost every clan war (and in the clan league) is no freestyle, speed, manual, nuclear, etc. for gimmicky settings. gimmicky maps are another story though....

But that's exactly why I think some clans should be interested in this. As it breaks the first rule of Clan war, it opens up new opportunities for clansmen and women. Surely someone in intrigued?

It is something worth considering. Some of the hard core clans may not do it, but we are but a small, fun and infant waring clan. PM my clan war organizer franny911 and we can see what KARMA is willing to do.

Thanks for the "outside the box" idea! You never know unless you try...
