Is this a good thing for Illinois? What are your thoughts on the matter?
The vote was unanimous against Blago.
Hey Juan, your governor just got canned!

Part of the stimulus said that Illinois could not recieve funding while he was in office, unless without a few sidesteps by the legislature of the state or other local units. On those grounds alone, id argue its a positive step.

Ok, here's the deal about Blago,
We NEVER wanted him to begin with. And I know that this is his second term. The first time around he was voted in because there was no choice. The previous governor(R) was going to prison.... Blago's only important promise was to get our state budget under control.
After his first term(he did an aweful job-the deficit increased) everyone was planning on voting for his opponet. Then the Republicans announced that his opponet would be Judy Barr Topinka. She's actually known for her corruption, and she helped to expand the state deficite. It was crazy, we had no real choice. In the end the voters decided that the devil you know is better than the devil that you don't. He didn't win by much though. And you know how in the presidential election everyone had "vote Obama" or "vote Ron Paul" or "vote McCain" stuff everywhere? There were like 0 "vote Blogojevich" or "vote Topinka" signs anywhere. No one cared for either of them.
Jon Stewert made an amazing point on "the Daily Show." Statisticly you have a better chance of committing murder and not going to prison than you do being governer of Illinois and not going to prison. It's fine that Blago is gone, but I have no hope for our next choices. Our state is just to far gone at the lower levels.
So no, our state probably isn't much better off.
But to be honest I am glad that we might be able to save some of our state parks now.
I watched it live on my local news station. It was pretty funny. Blago spoke for like 4 hours but never once actually talked about what he said about selling the seat. All he ever said was "I wish I could call witnesses from OBAMA's administration, I never was caught committing crimes, my dad was an immigrant and he worked hard to give me a better chance and that's what I want to do for the people of Illinois." Over and over, that's all he said.

A Blajo-Paul contest would be one of the few times I would cast my vote for the latter.
Re: Hey Juan, your governor just got canned!
I heard he actually had the lowest approval ratings in the history of Illinois. And that was before we knew about the corruption.
So this is probably a step in the right direction.

I think I'd still let myself be elected governor, murder usually doesn't pay as well.

Plus an office like governor would give you plenty of opportunities to troll an entire state.MeDeFe wrote:I think I'd still let myself be elected governor, murder usually doesn't pay as well.
