weekly tournament legistics
ok so ive had this idea for a while and id like to run it by the gen pop a big before trying it out, basically what i would like to do is create a tournament thats fast paced (16 or so players with a quick style, no special rules here) and a new one would start every week, for example
Mon. 11-3-08 posted at 12:00 Noon (central USA time) Classic, seq, flat, unlimited, 1v1, sunny
Mon. 11-10-08 posted at 12:00 Noon (central USA time) Canada, seq, no cards, chained, 1v1, Foggy
Mon. 11-17-08 posted at 12:00 Noon (central USA time) WWII Gazala, seq, flat, chained, 1v1, sunny
Mon. 11-24-08 posted at 12:00 Noon (central USA time) Brazil, seq, esc, unlimited, 1v1, Foggy
something along those lines, the schedual will be posted 1 month in advance with changes to map and gameplay everytime, but those changes are up with the schedual a full month in advance so players know exactly when that will come to play
Note: above is only an example, 1v1 is almost definate, but it could be single game, best of 3, best of 5, could be a fast league (everyone plays everyone once) ect. so the settings is not what im asking, just the legistics of starting a tournament every week at the exact same time, similar to what you might see in (whare i got the idea) online poker tournaments, they are always ready at the exact same time every week so players know exactly when they need to show up to make it.
thoughts?
EDIT: another thought by me, perhaps Im not the only one organizing them?
another example
Mondays - Natewolfman's weekly 1v1 tournament
Tuesdays - amazzony's weekly 8-way tournament
Wednesdays - Gilligan's weekly assassin tournament
ect
ect

new thread for new tournament, as its unlikelly that the first will finish in under a week, so we dont have the mods moving the threads all over the place back and forthbrandoncfi wrote:Sounds cool Ill help...Would there be only 1 sign up thread or would you have a new thread every week

Re: weekly tournament legistics
You know what I think would be even more interesting, Nate?
If you were to coordinate a "release schedule" type of thing with all of the organizers. The tournaments wouldn't have to be small one, but they could be if that organizer chose. You would have a list and the organizer could give you some details saying that they want to release X tournament on X day, and here are some brief details: X
You can use the new spoiler tags to condense the information into a manageable way, and it would provide some "anticipation" to the tournament forums once again. People would know "Hey, amazzony is scheduled to put out a new tournament on November 15th... I should make sure to check that out" and so forth. It would be really nice for some of the organizers who run excellent tournaments, but only a couple at a time so that folks could know when something was coming out.
Just thoughts is all.

I think a monthly schedule would be a better idea.

I said I'll drop by when I have more time and it seems that I have now...
I'll start from the back (no offense, Nate!) and say that I like Optimus' idea (no, he didn't get me hooked by using me as an example
). Sometimes several experienced organisers post at the same time and then there can be weeks when nobody posts anything. One good aspect would be what Optimus mentioned. Another thing is that if there's always a tournament by experienced organiser looking for players then new players who lurk around in tournament forums would have a chance to join a good tournament. Now, please, don't get me wrong, I don't think that only experienced organisers can run good tournaments but often it happens that those who have ran several know how to set everything up and their posts might be more attractive and inviting. Plus I think if the list suggested by Optimus would be advertised well enough then notification lists could be forgotten and that would give better chance to new players find good tournaments.
I'm not sure if the above paragraph makes any sense
Now, Nate, if I got your idea correctly then I don't like it. I like it overall but one thing makes me not like - that you want to use the same timezone. I think that the time zone should be different in each tournament. For example, I'm not ready to stay up until 3 o'clock to join a tournament but the time I wake up a small tournament might be full. So, I think that the timezones should be different each time... lets say that they shift 3 hours with every tournament... that way everybody has a chance to join one of the tournaments and in that case I like your idea (though I think it needs more thinking through, some evolving and some... twist maybe?).
I'm not sure if this makes any sense either
But at least I dropped it and gave you my 2 cents, in this case 2 paragraphs

Re: weekly tournament legistics
Now, while i like what you/prime are saying in this, its just not what i mean, basically what you guys are talking about is a general timeline for organizers to post the tournaments, while what im suggesting is a concistant almost completely standardized tournament to come out on a schedual, while still allowing the organizers to make whatever tournaments they wish on the side... Basically wnat i want to make is a type of tournament the players can count on to me online when they expect it and can join on a schedual, not players looking for a certain organizer.amazzony wrote:I said I'll drop by when I have more time and it seems that I have now...

now this is easilly done, i dont mind doing this like i said what i have above is an example, nothing more, we can easilly stagger them, for example you live across the ocean so say we could do like thisamazzony wrote: Now, Nate, if I got your idea correctly then I don't like it. then it resets back to the top with me again, i dont know what time zone you live in, but someone in australia would work as well since there schedual is about opposite with mine i guess lol

Re: weekly tournament legistics
I was thinking something like his but more of a Speed Tournament - players play regularly on a certain day, at a certain time.
Say 6-player games - players have a 'window' to join (e.g. 7.45pm to 8.15pm), and if they dont turn-up in time then those who have joined then drop the 6-player game for a 5-player game (or 4, or 3) that's already set-up as a backup.
There could be groups playing in mini-leagues in different time zones. Maybe they could meet at a mutual time for a few games too.

i was attempting something similar to this a couple weeks ago, but what with all the travel/holidays at this time of year i desided to put it off until maybe around the feb. month hopefully more people will be able to get on regularlyDJ Teflon wrote:I was thinking something like his but more of a Speed Tournament - players play regularly on a certain day, at a certain time.

|It would be great if this kind of thing works.
I'm trying a 3-player speed league, I'll let you know how it goes on (http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 31&t=72128).
Hoping to extend it and maybe have a speed tournament, or two ... or ten!
People who have regular free time in the evening are likely to be interested.
I recruited 10 for the league in no time by sending PM's.
Let's hope it works.
