BOYCOTT!!!
I'm calling for a CC-wide boycott of the Olive Garden restaurant. My wife and I recently ventured there to enjoy a quasi-Italian dinner. It had been a while since we had been, but the place never changes, so I had a good idea of what to expect. I sat down to the table and opened my menu. What I saw was appalling! I normally order the spaghetti and Italian sausage - I know, but spare me the phallus jokes, all right - with a bowl of minestrone soup. When I looked at the menu to find my dish of choice, I was surprised to find that they had raised there prices. My spaghetti was going to cost me FIFTEEN DOLLARS! What?!? The Tour of Italy was SEVENTEEN DOLLARS! Unbelievable!
So, what do you in CC-land say? BOYCOTT THE OLIVE GARDEN!

Signed.
I avoid chain restaurants whenever possible anyway.

I'm a vegetarian, so that's easy for me (unless there is eggplant parm on the menu).

Re: BOYCOTT!!!
To add fuel to the flame, when I asked the manager why they had raised prices, he had the gall to tell me that the rise in the price of fuel used in the food delivery trucks had caused their shipping prices to increase. This, in turn, raised the prices on the menu. Come on! You mean to tell me that the rise in crude oil raised the price of the Tour of Italy THREE DOLLARS?!? Ridiculous.
This has to be some sort of conspiracy. Have they said anything about it over at those websites you check, Gip?

I haven't read anything about it, but now that gas is coming down...your food prices should come down too now, shouldn't it? Go and find a "Family Owned" Italian restaurant in your area.Sentinel XIV wrote:My wife loves the place. I just order something that I'd like to eat.ksslemp wrote:It would be easier if you just boycott spaghetti!!!

The food will taste better and i'm sure it will be cheaper also. Plus you'd be supporting a small business and not a chain restaurant. I've only eaten at olive garden 2 or 3 times but the food seemed okay. $15 bucks for Spaghetti is ridiculous though! I wonder if Macaroni grill is any better? dunno but find a mom & pop restaurant, problem solved! NO BOYCOTT!

Macaroni grill is better. A lot better. I love that place. I love the carmela, and it's rosemary bread.ksslemp wrote:Go and find a "Family Owned" Italian restaurant in your area.Sentinel XIV wrote:My wife loves the place. The big trouble with dumb bastards is that they are too dumb to believe there is such a thing as being smart.

Re: BOYCOTT!!!
Actually, I live in the middle of nowhere. We have "mom and pop" restaurants here, which really aren't that bad. But you're right. We were in Gresham, which is a suburb of Portland, and they have shit for good restaurants. We should have hit Portland, which has some great eateries.jnd94 wrote:Move to the city Sentinel, they dont have any lame chains like that. You have to take all things into account. Not only delivery costs, cooking fuel, electricity etc. Everything is going up.

Re: BOYCOTT!!!
Dude, you just gotta find a real Italian restaurant. Olive Garden isn't real, bro.
You gotta go to a place where they serve the wine in a carafe. Place that isn't part of a corporation.

... Why boycott? Did the staff fire racial slurs at you while you were waiting for your dinner rolls? Did you see imported child laborers slaving over the pasta cookers for only pennies a day?

I agree with frequenting local establishments though.
I put Olive Garden right there with Applebees, TGI Friday's, etc.
They have their place, and serve their purpose for just getting a meal; but if you're looking for (what I have found) real good food, its better to go to a locally owned restaurant.
There always seems to be a more "personal" atmosphere to such places.....and better food overall.
Oh, and you don't have to go to the city.
Small towns is where you'll find the best eateries.......... IMHO
