Battle in a Battle [closed]

Post by a.sub »

Hey all, well so far my first tourney is going on with minimal problems so i wanted to get all of ur opinions on another game.
first of all this was inspired by the dice complaints, so if u were bitching about dices thank you!
in a nut shell the way it will work is i will host a JPEG of the classic map with the forts of each person, whether they hav taken their turn, what cards (randomly generated by my graphic calc) and what phase if their turn they are in (attacking, fortifying, end turn). then when they wanna take their turn they PM me ( Red wants to attack Blue from X to Y and im using Z forts). then what i will do is as the tourney host i will set up a game with red and blue, if red wins red advances how ever many forts he/she was using. if blue wins then red loses all the forts red used. u can attack multiple times, and multiple ppl can attack/defend (its like freestyle) at the same time so REd may be in one game attacking blue while in another defending against green.
the starting drop, and cards are randomly generated
i will keep track of who has taken their turn, what cards they hav etc.
Also just like in a real game they must notify me BEFORE their turn if hey wanna use their cards int he big map, u also take someones cards if u take their last property.

any ideas? comments? questions? think im insane?

If you can make it work then its a good idea... but it can also blow up in your face.

Though the freestyle idea that all people can attack at the same time won't work i think.. What if Red attacks from X to Y, and at the same time Blue attack from Y to X.

It would be better, ACCORDING TO ME, if you make it sequential.

this is just my opinions, to make that clear :P

I would stay away from anything like that. It's a decent idea that a couple others have either done or attempted, but it's really setting you up for an abandoned tournament or a lot of people dropping out. Taking a turn on the off-site map and then playing a full game to decide the outcome could easily take a week or more when you factor in the game time and PMing moves, etc. Even longer when people do chain attacks (W-X-Y-Z). If people aren't consistently in games or updated on the tournament status, then they're more likely to disappear. Plus you have to have 16 players for your tournament which means a lot of "sitting around" from what I'm reading.

thanx white moose and night strike for their suggestions, so i think i will make it a sequential. i also think i will make 4 games with 4 ppl each and let the last two continue. then the next round will hav two games with 4 ppl. then the last game with 4 ppl then the final game with the last two.

could i use speed games?

Yes ofc you can... but that is very tricky to organize so both opponents are online at the same time and such thing..
