Confusing Mess
Has anybody given thought to cleaning out this forum? Some of the threads haven't seen the light of day for months and years. And also there could be two different forums, one for a map idea that somebody is asking a cartographer to make and another for maps being started.

Re: Confusing Mess
Yeah, its a mess.
but this thread should go in the Foundry Discussion forum.
I'm guessing it'll get cleaned out soon. I don't know by who, though...

the trash keeps getting moved around and surprisingly, nobody wants it
locking them or an abandoned forum is a good idea

Re: Confusing Mess
We know the Map Ideas is the least manuverable forum, and we are working on some ideas to make it a little less so. Any additional thoughts from the rest of you lurkers?

Re: Confusing Mess
actually, gimil just cleaned the foundry out last month - there used to be 20+ pages of sewage, now we're down to a single page.
Of course, the filth has just been shunted into Map Ideas, and browsers routinely bump maps that have been dead for months. Ideas that have been floated in the past...
• creation of a Dead Letter Office for any thread that hasn't been worked on in X number of months (con: yet more subforums?)
• tagging maps as they go inactive (con: requires constant supervision and contacting mapmakers; people still bump them)
• locking dead threads down completely (con: what's a 'dead' thread?)

This isn't a terrible idea... "Ideas" used to be just that, now it is where new maps are born. Within Ideas there could be an Ideas subforum, an Incubator for new maps, and a Dead Letter Office for dead threads looking for a new home.TITANESS wrote:And also there could be two different forums, one for a map idea that somebody is asking a cartographer to make and another for maps being started.

make a rule. 1 month passes without the map maker making a post and the thread gets locked. when the map maker asks for unlocking the thread is unlocked.oaktown wrote: • locking dead threads down completely (con: what's a 'dead' thread?)
simple effective and no more necrobumping.

if those changes include thread locking spam warning and banning people then i'm all for it.

that sounds more like a vacation then being "dead"DiM wrote:make a rule. 1 month passes without the map maker making a post and the thread gets locked. when the map maker asks for unlocking the thread is unlocked.oaktown wrote: • locking dead threads down completely (con: what's a 'dead' thread?)

for example, i have taken like 2-3 1 month long breaks for famine (when it was in its eb stage) and its still not dead
maybe if its been not used for 2 months instead? 1 month is usually a vacation, 2 months is dead. ONly exception to me is conqueropoly, thats starting up again hopefully this august

Re: Confusing Mess
i remember suggesting this quite a while ago but Andy just pointed out that the foundry was the most organised part of the forum and that as map ideas sub forum is date ordered then the old ideas are automatically sent somewhere the 2nd page but i'm all for locking down some inactive threads that will never start again

Re: Confusing Mess
i think locking shit down that hasn't been touched for over a month is a good idea
unless of course the carto specifically asks for an extention, like if he's working really hard, or studying for finals and can't get to it for a while...
people just need to be more responsible with their ideas, and tell people when they're going on vacay and shit
