Automatic Newsletter Subscription
Hi folks,
I love to see the newsletter getting support and distribution, but really I think it should go further, but I need your comments on what you think of this idea. Whether you think it's a good one, or any possible problems it might face.
With the development of a tournament system in the works, a list of every player who is playing in an active tournament could be generated, (or, for at this stage, if tournament organisers sent their player lists to gozar to act as distribution lists, and we can sort to get rid of doubles)
I believe the tournament newsletter should be delivered weekly to all people playing in tournaments, I think it's a great source of information and the main reason most people wouldn't be on it is because they haven't seen or heard about it. But if you're playing in a tourney, you really should be getting the newsletter! It's the forum's newsletter!
You should be able to opt-out if you dont' want to get it, but reciept of the newsletter should be to all people playing in tourneys. What do you think?

Re: Automatic Newsletter Subscription
I have always looked for a way to expand the reader base, but I did not want to just start putting people on the list. I like this idea Tieryn, and I suppose it is what the higher ups have to say.
The main obstacle so far has been that even tournament forum regulars do not stop in this subforum much, so they may not even know about it.

Re: Automatic Newsletter Subscription
I don't think that automatic inclusion on the Newsletter list is something I would want to be doing right now. To me it seems like a bit of overkill.
Re: Automatic Newsletter Subscription
I find this idea interesting and useful... I think that the problem is that many people don't know that a thing like that even exists. If they knew then they would probably be interested in it. Come on, who wouldn't?
Edit. I actually got an idea from this thread. I think I'll make some personal advertising to it by adding a link to the newsletter in my tournament thread/first message.

Expanding on ZZ's idea, perhaps if we do not go with automatic subscription for all players, then some participating organizers could put a link in their opening post, or even make a note that enrolling in their tournament will automatically add them to the subscription list.amazzony wrote:I find this idea interesting and useful... I could put my hat in the ring for that... as of my most recent tournament i am making my 3rd post always link to every one of my tournaments... i could start making a 4th post, an advertizment post haha, perhaps if organizers what to use the space to advertize similar tournaments and i can also place a link/banner for the newletterGozar wrote:Expanding on ZZ's idea, perhaps if we do not go with automatic subscription for all players, then some participating organizers could put a link in their opening post, or even make a note that enrolling in their tournament will automatically add them to the subscription list.amazzony wrote:I find this idea interesting and useful... Re: Automatic Newsletter Subscription
I would be willing to do that. Just give me some links to where you would like people to go to. And I would be happy to send it before the tournament got started.Gozar wrote:Expanding on ZZ's idea, perhaps if we do not go with automatic subscription for all players, then some participating organizers could put a link in their opening post, or even make a note that enrolling in their tournament will automatically add them to the subscription list.amazzony wrote:I find this idea interesting and useful... For anyone who is willing to include this, the best links would be
to the newsletter itself:

and the subscription/submission/suggestion page:

No wonder I just saw several posts of people signing up.
Re: Automatic Newsletter Subscription
i am surprised we don't send it to every player on the site.
that would get the word out there to people who don't regularly visit the forums and as there are links to the tournaments it is easy for them to join.

Re: Automatic Newsletter Subscription
And now I feel almost guilty because I gave an idea but haven't got to actions yet
though when Nate sent out so many I guess I won't bother with my previous tournaments and bring in some readers when giving the info to all of my Olympics players
