How Fast Could You Win?

Post by tstoweschnell »

HELLO!

I've been considering creating a tournament that I think would be a lot of fun, but I had a few questions that I thought I'd bring to the forum before going for it. Any answers you have would be helpful. I guess there's no real point for me to be too secretive of my plan, but I just think it's a really exciting idea, and if I can keep it a secret that would be really fun for me. If it turns out that it would be useful for this discussion to know more, than I'm not against revealing more, but I'm trying to keep it veiled for now.

Anyway, here are my questions...
I'm curious as to what you think a fairly quick elimination of an opponent would be? In a 1 v 1 game, how many rounds would a normal match last and how long would a lopsided quick game last? Could you conceivably beat an opponent in 3 rounds, or would that be too impossible? Would it be an easy task to say that you could win a 1 v 1 in 8 rounds?

In a 1 v 1 fight, at what round is it more likely that the game is over?
On the classic map, 1v1, by round 5, what percentage of games are still being played? round 6? round 7?
I'm looking for the round where it is just as likely that the game would be over as it is still going on, what is that turning point round? My current guess is round 5, but that seems like it might be too low.

In addition, I'm curious about the same fact for more players. In a three or four person game, could any person be knocked out in 4 rounds? If an announced alliance occured in a three person game, how fast could those two knock out their opponent?

If there are the max people in a battle, and everyone is going for knockouts rather than the win, could some be taken out in 3 rounds or less? In a seven or eight person game, with alliances allowed, how many rounds would it take for one person to be shoved off the map?

I'm looking for the most confident but reasonable answers. Be cocky, but don't be rediculous and say 1 round for the sake of it.

I'm looking forward to the responses and if you have any questions as to what I mean, I'll be happy to clarify.

Thanks

I don't know about the actual statistics, but it seems to me that in 90% of 1v1 player games, it's decided by the end of round 4 (though not necessarily "over").

Way off, sorry.

I've run plenty of 1 vs 1 tournaments and the average finish is somewhere between Rounds 6-8

However, there are a steady number that go to round 9-12, and a handful that will last well into 20+

I would think the most 1v1 is decided within the first 10 rounds, this very much depends on the map. For example, Age of Realms: Might can be won in the first 3 rounds.
Personally my best to have won in the second round on that map :)

But i think in classic and British Isels and those more "normal" maps, it takes within 10 rounds to win.

yer 1v1 games on any normal map (42 terrs) will be won in usually 7-12 rounds. although maps like doodle and age of might can reduce this
as for fast elims. ive seen people knocked out round 1 in 8 man games but never in any less
however if your planning a tourny to see who can win the fastestits almost a direct rip off of mission survive the longest (though there is no reason u cant do it)
and opie your on a breakk..tkae your fricken break

I won in two rounds once. :D

It all depends on the map and settings. World 2.1 with no cards would take a long time. I run a doodle Earth tournament and I say the average win is about 4 to 5 rounds.

Luckily, what I am planning is nothing like that. I've checked out that tournament and it's not what I'm going for. It's less that i'm looking for the fastest and more that i'm looking for the exact round where it would be a coin flip as to whether or not someone would have got eliminated by then.

So it's looking like 6 would be a good bet.

Anyone have any opinions on how fast a duo could knock out one person in a three person match?
