yeah, I know there have been plenty of these already, but I read some of those and didn't see one that was exactly like this idea.
The idea is similar to chained fortifications but with a couple of differences. First you can drop off units along the way, and second you must have a singular path from the originating territory to the destination. That is, it works as thought the units are actually moving through the territories, but they can't backtrack. For example, on the classic Risk map, If I have control of NW territory, Greenland, Quebec and Iceland (but not Ontario), I can move units from NW territory to Iceland, or I can move units from NW territory to Quebec, but I cannot move units from NW territory through Greenland into both Quebec and Iceland (because that would be backtracking through Greenland). If I also controlled Ontario, I could fortify both Iceland and Quebec, because I could route the units first to Ontario, the Quebec, leaving however many units desired there, and move up through Greenland to fortify Iceland with the remaining units. This way, you can still only perform one fortification move per round, but if you have the resources available in the originating territory, you can fortify multiple territories as long as they lie along the chained route.
A variation on this also adds a variable range restriction by requiring that at least one unit be left in every territory that the units pass through to get to their destination. The range of fortifications is thus determined by the number of units available to be redeployed. So to move 3 units from NW Territory to Iceland, you'd need at least 4 units available in NW territory because you'd have to leave at least one in Greenland (you'd have the option to leave more in Greenland if you desired). To move 3 units from NW territory down to Argentina, you'd need at least 8 available units at the origin (leaving one unit in Alberta, Western US, Central America, Venezuela, and Brazil--assuming you controlled all those territories).
Anyway, just a thought.
