Maps, What do YOU want? (Question 2 - Theme)
Is theme important to what maps you like/play? (Please pick your favorite when you vote)
This may help give map makers more of an idea of what type of maps theme wise they should be designing. I think I covered everything. Happy voting. Thanks for your time.
PS. I really wish there was a way you could check multiple choices, but we don't have that here. And I know some people would just vote all because they could.

I like abstract maps. Too bad the ones you chose are also symmetrical, which might cause some people not to vote for them. Abstract does NOT mean symmetrical. It means different from the norm, requiring a different way of thinking. Age of Merchants, whilst a fictional geography map - is probably (at the moment) the most abstract map in production.
Yes, if you had the option to make everything check boxes instead of a radio/option button - I would have checked them all.

Excellent poll!!!
I like real world geography maps as well as historical geography maps.
I don't ever play abstract, fictional or 'battle themed' maps with weird bonus options.
I realize that most maps aren't historically consistent though. (or geographically consistent, for that matter.
I may one day have a go at the Chinese Checkers one though, to see what it's like.

Alex..? Alexander the Great, my Commander, what's wrong? Did someone leave you negative feedback again?

I'd really like to do a Siam-map. Not just because I live there, but I think the shape would be interesting too; plenty of territories in the North & North East and then an incredible bottle-neck going South.
It'd actually be a bit similar to the Indo China map in that sense.

(Actual provinces, probably too many)
Or based on: http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~stifeld/pics/ ... _large.jpg
And this is cool too, more historical.. http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/historic ... a_1886.jpg

i like fictional geography maps and abstract ones.
i think that's where the map maker can really release his createve spirit and get crazy and do something great. historical maps or real geography ones constrain the map maker and while they can be great i think that constraint can disrupt the creative flow.

I would like to see a multilevel game.
What is that -take the clasic north america from the game.
Each territory is then sub divided into 20 or 30 sectors.
Giving you about 180 to 210 spots.
Think of it from a 3 dimentional point of veiw.
Would make a game very interesting and long.
Just think you win in one sector then reinforce the others but while still having to hold onto what you have.
Just a thought, we have table version of this at my place but on a world scale.
Average game takes 3 to 4 weeks to play with 6 players. Thats on the smaller maps we use.

My 3 favourites are in the lead! (Real and fictional geography and historic maps). I think the poll shows that the maps people want are ones that they can relate to/know something about. While some abstract maps are nice, I think it is time for some of the foundry map makers to return to reality a bit more...

I really like both geo maps and historical maps, but I can't vote twice
The geography maps are good because they tend to be closer to original risk, with just regular territories and regions, no extra stuff (like brazil, north america, etc)
Then, historical maps are really cool since it is fun to see how a game of risk compares to real battles (real battles where the commanders play a game with seemingly loaded dice
). These maps just seem fun since a lot of real battlefields make great risk maps (like WWII eastern front)

I genuinely like all map types but as I play here more I like my maps to have something extra that draws me in like the clever bonuses in AoM or to a lesser extent pearl harbor. Now that bombardment has become part of our maps i hope to see this more often.Coleman wrote:Is theme important to what maps you like/play? (Please pick your favorite when you vote)

The real geography ones even though i love many of them now look very dated, I would love to see these in future having a "google earth" type look. Also its time for the maps to move out of 2D and into 3D and virtual reality. The days of flat maps on the page should be slowly moving behind us.
Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

I like maps that are big, but have 2 mostly-equal parts of the map. I like the ones the most that are centered around a conflict (siege and D-day) that have 2 large sections, split into smaller areas. the maps are big enough that you can get big armies, but small enough that you arent miles away from your next opponent.

Fictionial, but then I realized that could be taken the wrong way. What I'd love to see is someone like me create a place in their mind and make a map of that. I've done it before with the Ision islands, but no one commented on that.
Also there was this 120 country map someone made on paper before, and posted. People didn't like it, but I liked the map design, though the graphics, were bad, but it was via paper. I user created maps shouldn't be put down because no one knows what it's from.
