Happy Lunar Day!

Post by Apatheist »

It's the 57th anniversary of the moon landings, and the day when Neil Armstrong mucked up one of the most important speeches in human history.

Now let's have all the tin-foil hatters giving their evidence to "prove" it was faked, even though it wasn't and every "proof" is straightforward to refute....

Do you know that about 5% believe that we/mankind/USA did NOT land men on the moon?

And do you know that about the same % (or even higher) believe the world is flat?

I couldn’t believe about 3 weeks ago I was at a friends house and a bunch of us were having dinner…

One woman, a friend of a friend I’d not met previously, actually came out and as a conversation starter asked us all what we thought about the moon landing. I couldn’t believe it… her and her husband, and possibly a 3rd person, all said they didn’t believe it and “knew” it was faked. I was flabbergasted that someone in my “peer group” actually was this crazy. She started up the whole “why was the flag flying like that if there’s no wind” and was going to go through all the BS “reasons” people on Youtube give as “evidence”….

I was so flabbergasted/surprised, the only logical reason I gave in the moment was the Russian press… i.e. had we indeed faked it Russia would’ve bent over backwards to discredit us. There’s no way they would’ve let the US have that PR Coup.

(A better logical agreement I came up with after the fact… I should’ve asked her if her iphone works, or the Internet, or her GPS… because nearly everyone who invented and engineered those devices and technologies would tell you we did indeed land on the moon.)

Anyway, I indicated we couldn’t have this discussion about this topic (because I would’ve lost my mind and been rude. I was borderline rude anyway I said (having just met her an hour earlier)… “You might otherwise be a very bright lady, but in this case you’re absolutely wrong.” or something like that…

3 weeks later it’s still bugging me that someone “in my peer group” is actually THAT dumb.

I’m sorry, but believing in Flat Earth or Moon Landing Denial is not just a quirk or delusion… you MUST be dumb to be an “educated” Westerner and believe either of those things. I could forgive a smart person who grew up in other parts of the world where they were brainwashed to be anti-american or something… but not a Westerner.

I can prove the earth is flat in three spoilers
Spoiler
The earth is 70% water
Spoiler
virtually none of that water is carbonated
Spoiler
Ergo, the earth is flat

I remember that day. I recently had a lady at work say it was fake. The space race helped create some common items that we use today. I remember eating space food sticks that developed for the astronauts.

I agree, JimBoston. I find it ODD that so many believe that the moon landing is ALL FAKED. I also find it disappointing that some supposedly “educated” Westerners would believe such things. There is LOTS of distrust of Big Government; I think this is a huge factor here.

This is interesting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_land ... y_theories

As with Politics, Social Media allows "fringe thinkers" who find other like-minded folks and they reinforce each others' ideas and theories. They find affirmation of their ideas that are believed by only a few.

As I mentioned elsewhere, there was a denier who was shown evidence from the LRO, which proves (unless those photos are also fake) that we have been there, although he continued to believe it wasn't in 1969. The Russian argument is a pretty big one; but then there are those who believe that all the governments of the world collaborated on the Covid "hoax".
I understand about the peer group though. Our neighbours are lovely people, but were telling me that the vapour trails behind the planes that we see in the clear blue sky are actually clandestine attempts by the government at cloud-seeding. A quick bit of research clarifies that one can't seed clouds if there aren't any there, but they've bought into the conspiracy theory. I'm not sure how I'm going to tell them.

Some conspiracies are real… like Watergate or Iran-Contra… and others…

I draw the line at conspiracy theories that deny the Laws of Physics as we understand them.
Like Flat Earth or the Moon Landing Denials or the Earth is only 4000 years old.

JFK Assassination theories don’t require you to ignore science… even Trump’s “Stolen Election” claims (thought false) are scientifically possible.

I agree.
I think there's a big difference between "we never did" something that the evidence suggests we did (like the moon landing), and "we did" where it's difficult to prove that we didn't (like JFK).

I think that conspiracies are generally difficult to keep secret. (The only way to keep a secret is to share details with ONLY oneself.) The Death Squads in Argentina and Chile eventually were revealed and discovered by those NOT Part of the original conspiracy. Watergate was a conspiracy that took some two years to unravel, despite President Nixon being involved and despite his henchmen John Ehrlichman and H.R. Haldeman resignations. This scandal and conspiracy, that DID unravel, further eroded confidence of Americans in their political leaders. The movie All the President's Men, is a good summary, from the perspective of two of the key reporters investigating the scandal and cover-up.

As I have said already, in a few places, extraordinary claims deserve extraordinary proof. The same applies to UFOs, extraterrestial life, the JFK Conspiracy, the flat earth, and that the Apollo moon landings are all FAKES.

Well, I was around when it happened. I also knew someone who was a policeman at the final - I played junior football with his son.
Not only that, I have Nobby Stiles' autograph.

I have a Budweiser poster that you could carbon date to 1986.
It is documentary evidence that the Red Sox did indeed win the World Series in 1986.

If you google this fact you’ll find Wiki entries claiming the Mets won.

I have hard physical evidence… you gonna believe the fake news that’s easily editted online or my physical documentary evidence?

They can't use carbon dating after about 1950, since there's too much carbon in the atmosphere.
