Interplanetary Dice Drama

On 7-Apr-2001 NASA’s Mars Odyssey spacecraft lifted off from Cape Canaveral on a Delta II rocket, beginning its seven-month journey to orbit Mars .
On the 25th anniversary of Mars Odyssey’s launch, the aliens of Mars invited a few smug visitors from Saturn, Jupiter, and a nearby moon to play on www.conquerclub.com using the interplanetary internet. Human player Priya from Earth joined too, sipping tea and pretending not to notice the three-eyed strategist from Neptune already blaming “cosmic lag” for every failed invasion.
The first dice roll froze for 11 seconds, then landed on one. “Rigged!” shouted the Martian commander. “That server is clearly using black holes!”
Priya replied, “Funny. Last turn your ‘perfect attack’ was also lost to a solar flare.”
Soon the chat exploded with complaints, meteor memes, and accusations of cheating by a rogue asteroid. In the end, Earth won by doing the oldest human strategy of all: waiting patiently while everyone else disconnected.
