What we know about B.C. mass shooting: Students, educator, shooter's family among victims

Police on Thursday identified all eight victims killed in a mass shooting in the community of Tumbler Ridge, B.C., on Tuesday. They were mostly children, aged 12 and 13, killed at their school. One educator was killed. Two more children were critically injured and remain in hospital.

There were also two people killed at a home, identified by police as the mother and half-brother of the shooter.

The perpetrator, who has been identified by police, was also found dead inside the school from what they described as "a self-inflicted injury." (...)

What we know about the shooter
Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald, the commanding officer for the RCMP in B.C., identified the perpetrator as Jesse Van Rootselaar, 18, of Tumbler Ridge.

McDonald said police had responded to Van Rootselaar's home for mental health-related calls over the last several years. He said some of the calls dealt with weapons.

Van Rootselaar was not currently attending Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and had dropped out about four years ago. She was not related to any of the victims at the school, according to McDonald.

McDonald said Van Rootselaar identified as female but was assigned male at birth. McDonald said she began to transition about six years ago. He said police have not found any note yet from Van Rootselaar, but it's possible one was written.

Data from a response to a UK government question in 2019 showed:
a) that the profile of crimes committed by trans males was the same as that committed by bio males. [Obviously in the UK there are hardly any shootings included.]
b) Just under 60% of trans male prisoners had a sex-related crime in their history. This compares with 16.6% for bio males and 3.3% for women. This may be the result of experimenting to try to understand, cover up or being conflicted about their sexuality (no conclusive evidence provided).

Of course trans people are more likely to be victims of crime now; but to answer the question, a trans male does not exhibit different criminality from a bio male, so one might conclude that they are born that way, and transitioning makes no difference.

When a person says that they identify as a woman, what exactly are they identifying as?
How do they differ in terms of outlook from a gay or bi man?

Separately:
Do you believe that identification trumps biology when it comes to being allowed into women-only spaces or sports?
Is it even a thing that bio men should be allowed to have any input to at all?
Should it just be about sports science as far as sports goes, and biology as far as the rest of safe spaces are concerned?

Let's make this very simple: today's so called trans-gender women do not have a vagina, do not have a period, and cannot get pregnant. THEY ARE NOT women. PERIOD.

They were previously called "cross-dressers" or transvestites or gay or weirdos or crazy or mental cases.

There are two genders or sexes, male and female. Most who claim to be NOT male or female were called one of the names above for MANY many years.

There are a few who actually are gender dysphoric, and this is sometimes caused by having an extra Chromosome. Those are rare, now and before now.

Trans-gender "women" in Sports should NOT be allowed in women sports. Males masquerading as women have an unfair physical advantage in most sports and SHOULD not be in the same dressing room as actual women. Also, trans-gender "women" should not be in women prisons.

Biologically, none of it matters. If you are contributing ova to the evolution of the species, you are a woman. If you are contributing sperm, you are a man. Full stop. Evolution only cares about chromosomes put into the future gene pool. It cares about nothing else.

Morally and legally, none of that should matter. Every sentient being should be protected from undeserved harm, be it man, woman, hermaphrodite, post-op tranny, chimpanzee or dolphin.

As far as sports go, it's not a moral issue, though people really want to make it one. If the governing body of your sport wants to create weight limits, height limits, testosterone limits, or bone-density limits, that decision should be made entirely from the point of view of what makes sense in that particular sport. I've seen butchy women playing on a mostly-male rugby team and taking the same beating the men took, without complaint. On the other hand, should someone eight feet tall who just had his balls cut off yesterday be allowed to join a women's basketball team? I don't know. My only answer is, let the governing body of that league make the decision without interference from anyone who isn't involved.

I'm asking the question because nobody has yet, as far as I know, come up with a definition of "a woman" that satisfies both trans and bio women as far as inclusion in women-only spaces is concerned - this includes refuges, toilets, changing rooms, and representation (which was the basis of the Scottish court ruling). Personally, I don't think the issue will be resolved until this agreed definition exists, although I would very much like to see that happen.
FYI I knew someone who was transsexual more than 25 years ago, before it became fashionable (and an excuse to avoid punishment).
