So did Hannibal; does not mean their strategy, tactics, or Leadership were bad. I think both were at a disadvantage from the very start with Resources, manpower, and other assets.

AI Summary:
To understand Hannibal, the Carthaginian general, consider these key points:

Born in 247 BC, Hannibal was a military commander known for his strategic genius.

He famously crossed the Alps with elephants during the Second Punic War against Rome.

Hannibal's tactics at the Battle of Cannae in 216 BC are still studied in military academies today.
also, from AI:
AI Summary

To assess whether Robert E. Lee delayed the loss of the Confederacy, consider the following points:

Lee's leadership in key battles, such as the Second Battle of Bull Run, showcased his tactical prowess.

His defensive strategies at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville temporarily halted Union advances.

Lee's ability to inspire and maintain troop morale contributed to prolonged Confederate resistance.

The Confederate Army's victories under Lee delayed Union control of Virginia for years.

AI Summary

This AI-generated answer is powered by OpenAI. AI-generated content may sometimes contain inaccurate, incomplete, or biased information, so make sure you do additional research. You should not rely on this feature for medical, financial, or legal advice.

To highlight a famous general who achieved great victories despite bad odds, consider the following:

Hannibal Barca: Known for his audacious crossing of the Alps during the Second Punic War.

Napoleon Bonaparte: Secured numerous victories against larger coalitions, notably at Austerlitz.

Robert E. Lee: Achieved significant victories with the Confederate Army despite being outnumbered.

Genghis Khan: Expanded his empire through strategic brilliance against larger forces.

Alexander the Great: Defeated Persian armies much larger than his own at battles like Gaugamela.

George Washington: Led the Continental Army to victory against the British Empire despite limited resources.

AI Summary, also:
Robert E. Lee: Achieved remarkable victories in the Civil War, such as at Chancellorsville, despite being outnumbered.

and, an interesting article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_ ... t_the_odds

This article includes this battle, celebrated on a CC Map:
Battle of Rorke's Drift
and a recent battle (1951, Korea):

Battle of Kapyong
The battle occurred during the Korean War and the Chinese Spring Offensive of April 1951. The Chinese forces outnumbered the UN battalions by a factor of five to one,[34] or by a factor of greater than ten to one.[35][36] Two battalions of the 27th British Commonwealth Brigade, each of them consisting of about 700 soldiers, the Australian 3 RAR and the Canadian 2 PPCLI, supported by the artillery of the New Zealand 16th Field Regiment and 15 American Sherman tanks, withstood the assault of the full Chinese 118th Division and 60th Division, numbering about 20,000 men, in continuous fighting from 23 April to 27 April.

AI:
At the Battle of Gettysburg, General Robert E. Lee’s primary errors were his over-aggressive tactics against heavily fortified positions, vague communication with his subordinates, and the disastrous decision to launch Pickett’s Charge.
I once scored a birdie playing golf. It doesn't make me a good golfer; it was the other 81 shots that defined my round.
Hitler succeeded in invading France. Does that make him a good soldier, or the psychotic decisions later on that make him a bad one?
Goering's decision to use his fighters as bomber escorts nullified their advantage over the spitfires - was he a good leader?

Apart from anything else, none of this is going to matter in the slightest, since future wars will be fought with drones, rockets, cruise missiles...and perhaps ultimately nukes (followed by bows and arrows, according to Einstein). The days of lining up facing the enemy and shouting "Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" are over for the time being.

-------------Hitler didn't invade FRANCE...His Generals did.....Hitler would TAKE CONTROL OF BATTLE PLANS....After The Battle of Kiev...In Russia/Soviet Union...1941 A.D....Instead Of Going South to take The Oil Fields in The Caucasus...HE WENT AFTER STALINGRAD...Just because Stalin ,renamed it after himself...

-----------------At Gettysburg.....LEE couldn't turn around.....HE WAS ALL IN(poker term)....What hurt him....Calvary General J.E.B. Stuart was late to where he should of been.....On top of that ....Young Gen. George A. Custer spotted J.E.B.'s Calvary ,and caught them in the side....Custer himself was disobeying orders being where he was....LUCKY for The Union, Custer did his own thing...Or LEE would have WON at Gettysburg...
... O:) ConfederateSS.out!(The Blue and Silver Rebellion)... O:)
----------------Stuart would of taken out the forces facing Gen. Pickett, had Custer not stopped/delayed him...

Would have, not would of.
Very few leaders have led their armies into battle in modern times, you know full well that's a figure of speech. Ultimately they are the ones responsible. You appear to be implying that the generals acted against Hitler's instructions or without his knowledge - those who did that didn't last long. English/British monarchs haven't led their army in battle since 1485.

If Lee's forces were in the wrong place or late, then he was wrong to attack, and if he didn't cover his flanks, then he wasn't as great as you say he was. If, as you say, Custer delayed or stopped Stuart, then Lee should have had a rethink.
