The UK Govt caught cooking the books once again:

The government has changed the way it is counting the number of covid-19 tests carried out in a bid to hit its target of 100,000 tests per day by the end of April, HSJ can reveal.

Previously, a test would be counted once the sample had been processed in laboratories. But this definition has been changed in the last few days, a senior source told HSJ.

it's exactly what you're saying. Do you really trust the fact that china suddenly had like 20 new cases and 2 death per day, even with strict confinement policies? Do you think all country stats have to be taken as seriously when clearly all counting methods are not the same?

I think all the articles pointing fingers at China saying that because there are some flaws in the official stats that is proof that the Chinese Government is engaged in a malign cover-up, but the exact same sources give a free pass to every other country in the world for publishing equally flawed data.

Sadly not as that would be a beautiful tale, freedom sounds to much like free man. This would be a level of unintentional and cruel irony that not even McDonalds working with the government and private prisons would stoop to.

You can't get potato chips at McDonalds.

Are you guys still calling French fries, chips, down there? Pom Frite were never called chips in the United States of America unless specifically served with fish as "fish n chips".

Here in Canada up until the 1980s it could be confusing, since as we were attatched to the US we never used the term crisps.

As a commonwealth, chips could mean potatoes prepared two very different ways. Typically if you prefaced it with Potato that meant the hard thin sliced snack that comes in a bag or tube and are ok eaten at room temperature for weeks. And just chips was often French fries that can be pretty disappointing once they cool off and get soggy.

Since the 1990s we decided to tag along with the US regarding nomenclature since they are the leaders in that sort of cuisine, chips = crisps and French fries = the potato part of fish and chips.

I think it happened because of the policy at McDonalds to ask, "Would you like fries with that?" after every item ordered. It eventually changed to, "Meal or just the Sandwich?"
