i tried to download it but it offered me so many different things i had noidea which to download

when i do download somthing windows doesn't recognise it

its all very well leaning how to use it but how do you download the bugger?

For Windows XP
Go here: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

Download GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment (version 2.6.10-20050823, for Windows 98/ME and NT4)
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-w ... -setup.zip
Open the ZIP file and run the GTK installation

Download The GIMP for Windows (version 2.2.14, updated installer)
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-w ... etup-1.exe
Install and run GIMP
