Split Suggestions & Bug Reports into two seperate forums
Like the title says....
Less than 15% of the posts on this forum are bug reports; 85%+ of the posts on this forum are suggestions (many of them hair-brained or repeated for the umpteenth time by folks who don't read the to-do list).
Bug reports need immediate attention; it's more important to fix something that's broken than improve an existing design. Therefore, I suggest that this forum be split in twain, sundered into a Suggestions & Ideas forum and a Bug Reports forum.
I figured this was a good idea after spamming suggestions (sorry). I also figure this has been put forward before, but as the closest thing to this on the to-do list is "new forums", I figured I'd bring these up specifically.

Keeping the number of people posting to a dedicated Bug Report forum to a minimum would be justification of said forum.
By reducing the number of posts there, a dedicated Bug Report forum would be easier and quicker to peruse by admins and developers, ensuring that actual bugs get seen and dealt with faster.

i can see ur point Andy
What i think he is going for with the idea of those who as u rightly said ust dont know how it works. when such a situationn is found a mod would just reply with the instruction and lock the topic that way the actual bugs automattically stay at the top.
also make sure that there are penaltys for posting "N00b bugs" that is to say
Claiming the dice are bugged
and other things like that could say get ur forum ability suspended for a wk or so.
also i believe he is right in INFERing that the bug reports get lost in the mass amounts of what really are misinformed suggestions.
just musing i guess but nice idea Andy

You are correct in your assumption, Xayath; I've never accused a bug report of being ignored, but I do infer that the current forum arrangement makes such a thing more likely with all of the suggestion spam that gets posted here.Xayath wrote:i can see ur point Andy

Locking all active bug reports at the top of a dedicated Bug Report forum would be an excellent way to prevent a thousand identical bug reports from going up -- folks could just glance the forum and say: "Oh, I see someone has already reported the 'disappearing armies' bug," for example. Once the bug has been fixed, the locked message can be removed from the top to make space for reports of new bugs, and be archived at the bottom. In fact, just like the "To-Do" list on this forum, the dedicated Bug Report forum could have a regularly updated "Bug List" locked at the top of the page containing categories such as "Recently Fixed", "Pending Repair", "Known Bugs", "Not Bugs (aka N00b Bugs)", etc, etc, etc....
Well, that looks like the word from the proverbial turtle's mouth, there. When this site first went up, I'm sure the amount of message traffic wasn't an issue, as 90% of the posts to this forum were bug reports and the other 10% were suggestions. Now that the proverbial shoe is on the proverbial other foot, it would be logical to "do as other sites do", and separate this forum into two:lackattack wrote:Actually, I think a separate forum for bug reports could be useful. Bug topics are a higher priority than suggestions and it would be easier for me to seek them out. I've seen this done on other sites.

Separate Bugs and Suggestions into 2 folders (form used!!)
Suggestion Idea: Divide the Suggestions and Bug reports folder into 2 folders, 1 for bugs and 1 for suggestions.
Specifics: Begin 2 new folders, one for suggestions and one for bugs. You could probably leave old threads in the current combined folder, (to save effort), but new suggestions can go in separate folders.
Why it is needed: There are so many bug reports lately that very good ideas are getting pushed to page 2 or even 3 before folks really have a chance to see them. Partly, there have been a lot of bugs lately, but also, there are just more people on the site now, so there are more posts overall.

Separate Suggestions and Bugs into two seperate forums
Concise description:
- Make two seperate forums for suggestions and bugs
- There would be one forum for suggestions and one for bugs.
- The forum would be easier to read and not as cluttered
- Less good suggestions would be bumped to page two before anybody noticed them.
Re: Separate Suggestions and Bugs into two seperate forums
Good idea and already suggested. I believe this is pending.

Split this forum
Concise description:
- Split this forum into a suggestions, and bug reports sub forums.
- This has been suggested multiple times, and as far as I know never been rejected, but just "there are more important issues." However, we could still have it on the *to do* list at least.
- We should also have a dead suggestions sub-forum, would clean things up a lot.
- This forum will be a lot neater.
- Kind of self explanatory...

Re: Split this forum
Never mind adding sub-forums split into two Forums,
in suggestions 4 sub-forums (To-Do, Done, Unclassified, Rejected)
in suggestions 4 sub-forums (To-Do, Done, Unclassified, Rejected)

Is this a bug report?
Subforums for Suggestions & Bug Reports
Concise description:
The Suggestions & Bug Reports forum has topics covering over 130 pages. This makes it extremely unlikely that one could check to see if a similar suggestion has already been made. (It seems to me that there are too many ways to say much the same thing to be able to use the search feature very effectively in such a case.) The Map Foundry, however, is organized to help the browser find what interests him or her. I suggest adding some subforums that would group these topics in a useful way (any useful way would be a blessing). For example,

- Add Subforums to the Suggestions & Bug Reports forum to organize it for easy browsing

- Bugs: for those things which are not working as advertised (or at least as reasonably expected)

Re: Subforums for Suggestions & Bug Reports
Agreed, this is something that I've suggested as well, and I could see this one happening.
There's a lot of different ways of doing this, either by area or functionality etc. I know there are a lot of threads, but there are many many duplicate suggestions.

Create Sub-Forums for Bugs & Suggestions
Create 2 Sub Forums in the Suggestions & Bug Reports Forum:
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
- Create a Sub Forum for reporting Bugs

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
- Make it easier to look for people to read through the forums and have input about suggestions

Re: Create Sub-Forums for Bugs & Suggestions
Some forum re-organization and construction will be taking place over the next months I believe. Stay tuned to see what we have in store to make for some user-friendly and manageable forum structures.

Suggestion- Seperate the Suggs from the Bugs
Create a two separate forums, one for suggs and one for bugs.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
because there are so many threads and its too confusing for both topics to be in one forum.
