Possible solution for DEADBEATING
I've read a few threads on the topic and replied to one as well. Random deployment was a good idea but how about this?
Just like we have a tracker for Positive and Negative feedbacks why don't we add an additional tracker for each account to show # of missed rounds or numbers of Deadbeats (removed from the game for missing 3 turns in a row)?
That way we know before we join a game what type of player we are dealing with.
I haven't seen this in the forum before but forgive me if it's already been addressed.

Great idea, i remember this being mentioned in an old thread but it never got much attention. I hope it does this time. I agree that it should be shown as a percentage, but instead of deadbeating, perhaps it should instead show # of games with missed turns, to also show those people who use strategic deadbeating, i.e. missing 2 turns in a row then playing the 3rd one.
Highest Score: 2532
Highest Position: 69 (a long time ago)

Maybe limit it to their last 50 or 100 games or the last 2 weeks. For example say someone has played 100 games but for some reason the deadbeaed 2 times in their first 15 games. I think the they would have proven themselves in the last 85 games.
Sometimes things in life happen. Last summer my internet provider had major problems because of brush fires and I did not have service for 2 weeks.Wouldn't have been my fault but it would show up for all to see. Since I have been playing I have missed 1 turn that I can think of.

Lol, straight out of a Kafka novel.Evil Semp wrote:I wasn't playing on CC at the time. At least thats what Comcast used as the excuse. The fires damaged equipment. And when I would call to find out how long it would be down they tried to sell me their phone service. Yeah then I wouldn't have had a phone to call and complain.

Won't stop them joining an open game...taking the last slot and spoiling that game...G Khan wrote:I've read a few threads on the topic and replied to one as well. Random deployment was a good idea but how about this?

I don't think anything will completely solve the problem but it would be a step in the right direction.yowzer14 wrote:Won't stop them joining an open game...taking the last slot and spoiling that game...

Or you implement a cap to be determined based off of how it would be calculated and allow either the creator of the game to set their cap or a check box for the predetermined cap that prevents a deadbeat from joining. They could still create their own games but not join new ones unless the creator allows them to.Evil Semp wrote:I don't think anything will completely solve the problem but it would be a step in the right direction.yowzer14 wrote:Won't stop them joining an open game...taking the last slot and spoiling that game...
I don't care to see a number by a player's name relating to missed turns in recent games.
In my mind a rule change is a better solution. People click JOIN GAME to play... so play or face consequences. Miss a turn you get nothing, no card and no makeup armies. Miss three turns and get booted from the game. Someone blows off the game and misses 3 or 4 or 6 moves and that's three to six days the game has sat idle as all players waited. Not fair to turn missers? It's a game play it.
If you have no time to play DON'T JOIN A GAME!
Going on vacation in two days and won't have web access? DON'T JOIN A GAME!
If there are no consequences for missed moves and deadbeats, they will always be part of the game.

Creating private games helps the most.Evil Semp wrote:I don't think anything will completely solve the problem but it would be a step in the right direction.yowzer14 wrote:Won't stop them joining an open game...taking the last slot and spoiling that game...

This guy is a little too HARD CORE for my tastes. I love to play and hate people missing turns just like the next guy, but life does happen (for some of us at least) and we need to make room for that. I like the percentage idea, but this guys post is not only crazy, it is just dumb. I don't join games and deadbeat, but If I had something come up and I couldn't get to my comp. I would hope the group would understand!
If deadbeats are your BIGGEST problem grow up. No one wants them, but we ALL deal with them. Keep throwing out good Ideas and i will make sure Lack catches this thread.

My policy: I routinely leave negative feedback for deadbeats.
If the deadbeat PM's me with an explanation, I withdraw the negative feedback.
It's simple and to my mind fair.
Funny story: I had a deadbeat complain that I should have contacted him before I left a negative feedback. I think the irony was lost on him. I ended up withdrawing the negative feedback though because he contacted me with an explanation.
Deadbeating and missed turns used to be a much bigger problem for me before I got the premium membership. Now if someone misses turns it has much less impact on me, and I've learned to take advantage of the turn-missers and the deadbeats.

I don't leave nf if the person posts an apology, as that shows me that at least they were conscious of it. But grazing cattle, i would have to say that deadbeating is the biggest problem on CC - certainly the most prevalent. The plain and simple fact is that cracking down on deadbeating would chip into the coffers here. More deadbeats=more members=more fees collected. How much do you think the site administrators are going to do to correct a problem that is bringing in the bucks?

yes but what if you are in a game you started a week ago? or you suddenly get appendicites and are in the hospital for a week? sometimes you just can't help it.oVo wrote:Going on vacation in two days and won't have web access? DON'T JOIN A GAME!

yes but most deadbeats aren't premium members. they are people who sign up and then forget about the sight. people who pay, stayb.k. barunt wrote: More deadbeats=more members=more fees collected. Most people know weeks ahead when they are going on vacation. As far as going into the hospital life happens and when you get back maybe send a pm to all involved in your games explaining. I would understand that.for dummies wrote:yes but what if you are in a game you started a week ago? or you suddenly get appendicites and are in the hospital for a week? sometimes you just can't help it.oVo wrote:Going on vacation in two days and won't have web access? B.K.Barunt, I am saying that Dead beats are only a problem if you view them as one. Is it SO ludicris for Lack to say pay $20 a year to play here? No. Then what stops people? Nothing really. What encourages people to buy premium? A DEADBEAT PROBLEM. I am not premium, but I don't view deadbeats as a problem. In Theory, they are good for your game, and I always keep one slot open for RT (plus I don't RT w/ people who I don't know or haven't heard their reputation). i realize that those new players who leave after a day or two aren't bad. They are just human beings who said I need to use my time in a different fashion.
I have no problem with dead beating for actual reasons or beacause you are NO longer playing. I do have a problem w/ people deadbeating as stratagy. That seems immoral to make people wait on you so you can suprise attack them. To each his own.
Thanks for your differing view!

No hardcore intentions at all, just hoping for a bit of incentive for slackers to get it in gear and play the game. A way of promoting a small courtesy towards other players by keeping a game rolling.
If real life is kicking your butt then this game is the probably the least of your worries and there will be other games to play when the time is right. As Grazing Cattle said, "life does happen" and as such should trump gaming every time. It's no biggie if someone's a no show and it costs them a little on the board. Likewise players missing turns is all part of the game and waiting for your turn isn't the end of the world.
b.k.barant suggests that CC members are a large part of the deadbeat population. If this is true, I don't expect a rule that encourages them to actually play when their turn arrives to run them off.
