Re: Oceania Map v5.2 [D] (02/20 New Poll: good bonuses? p.1/10)
This is what I think in the way of bonuses:
- AUSTRALIA +6
- KIRIBATI +3
- MELANESIA +4
- MICRONESIA +4
- NEW ZEALAND +3
- POLYNESIA +5
- EAST INDONESIA +3
Make the assault routes look better and make the title of each area bolder or something. Very nice map!

First time commenting here, upon request of thenobodies … nicely done. My comments right now will be pretty quick.

- Firstly, in response to sailorseal, I disagree with what he said. The titles are fine, and there's nothing to change on the assault routes.
But here's what I'd do. Do you have all the circles in one layer? If you do, command-click the box by the name. Then go to your assault route layer and hit helete. That should clean up the dots somewhat (stands out are Kiritimati, the Solomons, and Nauru). If you don't have all the circles in one layer just shift-command click on the boxes for each of them.
I'd do the same with Australia and its border with the dots.
Bonses … umm:- Australia +5
New Zealand +2
Melanesia +4
East Indonesia
Micronesia +3
Kiribati +2
Polynesia +6

well. I don't like the island in the top right. if you're not looking hard at it, it looks like a waterfall or something. not an island. maybe just do the trees? not a big deal either way.

Loving the concept of this map. Although I just signed up and trying to get used to this game I find it to be quite interesting. I hope to see this map come to life. Is there beta testing? I'd be interested...

Oceania V5.3 New!
Gameplay is now fixed,we are waiting other suggetions about graphic.
- Australia bonus
Decision: Australia bonus value +6
requested
iancanton wrote: i think that u have a good eye for bonuses, as ur figures are much better than the ones on the spreadsheet. the only one that i'd increase is australia: by comparison with classic north america, which has 3 border territories out of 9 for a +5 bonus, our australia has 6 border territories (5 if u remove whitsunday islands to solomon islands) out of 10, so i think it's worth +6.edbeard wrote:My changes:

So we decided to start some graphic adjustment like remove island in the right upper side of map and we removed the last dots in the armies circles, we added a squid but if community don't like it we could develope something different.MrBenn wrote:Poll Result:

it can start neutral....

How about connecting Dunedin to Tasmania and removing the victoria-christchurch link. Its more straight forward and looks less confusing

Here we decided to do this routes. (http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 5#p1851938)
Air routes are made to do them realistic, where possible.
Now i'm going to add some starting position today.
When i have added starting to prevent that one player could have a continent since first turn the gameplay is ended in my opinion.
I like to know if there's something on graphic that community want suggest to me...
Thank you anyways

STARTING POSITIONS AND NEUTRALS - UPDATE 03/03/2009
I set 8 starting positions for +6 bonuses continets to prevent that a player could start the game with an advantage.
When the game begins these start positions will be split up amongst the players. The other territories are dealt out as normal territories.
There are also 7 starting neutrals 1 for each continent.
STARTING POSITIONS:
AUSTRALIA:
All 3 armies neutrals
AUSTRALIA:
I have no more change for gameplay.

Re: STARTING POSITIONS AND NEUTRALS - UPDATE 03/03/2009
placing 7 starting neutrals will create more problems than it solves, for example there will be 37 starting territories, which means that each player starts with 12 in a 2-player game. this is bad because, in round 1, player 1 can reduce player 2's deployment to 3 armies if he wins only 1 of player 2's territories.thenobodies80 wrote:There are also 7 starting neutrals 1 for each continent.
it is also unnecessary. in a 2-player game without coded starting positions, the chance of the first player starting with all 4 territories of kiribati is about 1.2%. for the other continents, such as new zealand, this reduces to less than 0.4%. with coded starting positions, the chance of player 1 starting with a bonus region is zero in games that have 2, 3 or 4 players and less than 0.2% for games with 5 or more players.
i therefore recommend that u either have a totally random start, classic-style (my preferred option), or use coded starting positions only for kiribati.
having mentioned kiribati, can u change kiribas to tarawa and rawaki to canton island? kiribas is not an island group: it is an english-language phonetic spelling of the way the natives pronounce the name of their country, kiribati. tarawa is the island group where the kiribati central government and only international airport are located. rawaki is an uninhabited island that is part of a marine reserve, while canton island actually has people who live there: it's the only island in that area with a native population!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanton_Island
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rawaki_Island
i've had another look at the gameplay and think that polynesia is extremely difficult to win and hold. i suggest removing the air link between tokelau and rawaki, to make things fairer for someone who has more armies on the right-hand side of the map. also add an air route from western samoa to tonga to help polynesian fortification.
are the two yellow bonus regions too similar in colour to each other?

I will reset all the starting. the map return to classic style, since now!iancanton wrote:placing 7 starting neutrals will create more problems than it solves, for example there will be 37 starting territories, which means that each player starts with 12 in a 2-player game. this is bad because, in round 1, player 1 can reduce player 2's deployment to 3 armies if he wins only 1 of player 2's territories.

A question for you, ian: How do you calculate this probabilty?
you wrote right in past so i'll ask to the graphic to change names as you and links says.iancanton wrote:having mentioned kiribati, can u change kiribas to tarawa and rawaki to canton island? kiribas is not an island group: it is an english-language phonetic spelling of the way the natives pronounce the name of their country, kiribati. tarawa is the island group where the kiribati central government and only international airport are located. rawaki is an uninhabited island that is part of a marine reserve, while canton island actually has people who live there: it's the only island in that area with a native population!

the same thing, your modification makes australia better, so i decided to try to apply the modification on map.iancanton wrote:i've had another look at the gameplay and think that polynesia is extremely difficult to win and hold. i suggest removing the air link between tokelau and rawaki, to make things fairer for someone who has more armies on the right-hand side of the map. also add an air route from western samoa to tonga to help polynesian fortification.

Re: Oceania Map v5.3 [D] - Starting position removed
I'm with ian, with the bonus structure you have, it'll be so rare for someone to drop a bonus in a 1v1 that you're better off going with strictly classic-style gameplay. Looking good, can't wait to see the new update.
Also, for anyone with any further revisions/changes/suggestions, note that I will be stamping this for gameplay shortly, so speak now.

Why did you put an orange zone next to a light pink zone, next to a yellow zone?
The shades of the last two look almost identical. I would suggest making Polynesia a color that contrasts with the other two.

But i have to say that we won't cheange colors, we try to do them only more clear to distinguish for now.
We promises to fix colors before we will have the graphic stamp.

Why is New Zealand named after cities in the areas - yet everywhere else is countires/counties...
Isn't there a better naming convention in NZ for this?

but we didn't find better names.
that's why we need more territories on NZ. (http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 5#p1839489)
I think that all could work anyways.
But if someone has better names for these areas we will change them happily!

They're still a bit contrived - but I thought that they were the best we could do... the fact that there is "northland" and "southland" is quite useful really... as they're also very descriptive.thenobodies80 wrote:yeti_c wrote:Northland = Auckland
