how about a different set of premises.....
first premise....Most societies if not all, have at somepoint in time come up with the idea of god or gods or something supernatural
second...not every society has believed in the same concepts of god.
Therefore one of two things is possible.
1) the concept of god, true or false, is something in all likelyhood every society has elements of, but no society has completly understood.
2) the concept of god, being unable to be proven true or false, is true or false by the standards of that society, and is thus dependent on a given society.
If you change the focus from something we cannot ever look at and "know" so to speak, to something we can at least observe you find your premises are relatively of low import.
you can argue anything you like if your the one choosing the premises.

Re: All people can be classified into 3 groups.
I'm my own group.. I believe there is a god but I dont go by some "book" I follow my own rules pretty much. I do follow most the 10 commandments I don't kill or steal or sleep with married people just as I don't lie.. I don't believe in hurting others if you can avoid it either.. I believe in a god that isn't some white guy with a Septor in a kingdom.. I don't know what he is though..Gregrios wrote:Everybody on earth can be classified into 1 of the 3 following groups.

Group 2: A person who believes in God but chooses not to live by the words of God, is a hater of God.
Group 3: A person who lives by their own assumptions, does not believe in God.
It is completely up to every individual to choose the way of life they want.
The person's choice will no doubtably fall into 1 of these 3 groups.

Clearly you weren't reading. That means that you hate God with a passion. Either that or you're lying and you don't believe at all.salvadevinemasse wrote:I'm my own group.. I'm going to change it from "doesn't believe in God", to "doesn't know the word of God".
It should make alot more sense now. My bad.

Oh, please tell: What is the word of God? Is it the one in the bible? Or the one in the Quran? Or the word as interpreted by the mormons? Or did the ancient greeks have it right?Gregrios wrote:Snorri1234 wrote:Actually.... no. Besides, there are multiple "words of God".Gregrios wrote:That would be group 2.Guiscard wrote:What about people who believe in God but don't believe the 'word' of God is a truthful reflection?
It depends on the sceniro. That could really go 2 ways. Group 2 or 3.
1st scenirio: a believing person that chooses not to listen can't like God too much. And what's the opposite of like? It's dislike or as I said "hate". Group 2.
2nd scenirio: a believing person who simply don't know what the word of God is. This would be the group I've spent most of my life in. They believe but don't understand it. Group 3.
It was a good question. Next time though, just think about it a little longer before finding fault with it. That's all I ask.
I did jump the gun with my 1st answer but hopefully I've answered your question. Your scenirio fits 2 of the groups previously mentioned.
Or are they all false and has God yet to bring his word to the people, or even never will? Because that's what Guiscard was saying. You can believe in God and still think the Christians have it wrong.
The mindset that everyone must be divided up into this category or that category (particularly with respect to religion) is one of the leading causes of problems in this world. Regardless of how correct or appropriate that your argument is, you are contributing to our society's already overwhelming xenophobia.Gregrios wrote:Everybody on earth can be classified into 1 of the 3 following groups.

There, that's three big fat holes blasted through your logic already... I win.

One can make 3 generalized statements about ANYTHING and say each person will fit into one of the groups.Gregrios wrote:Everybody on earth can be classified into 1 of the 3 following groups.
Group 1: A person who lives by the word of God believes in God.
Group 2: A person who believes in God but chooses not to live by the words of God is a hater of God.

All people fit into one of these categories to:
1) people who hate you
2) people who like you
3) people who don't care about your existence
or this one,
1) people who like cheese
2) people who don't like cheese
3) people who are indifferent about cheese
maybe this one,
1) people who think 911 is a government conspiracy
2) people who don't think 911 is a government conspiracy
3) people who don't know/care
When you include a positive response, a negative response and a neutral response of course everyone will fit into one category; it's called cognitive reasoning, i.e., deciding where you fit.
Just because your's is about god makes it no different (btw, flogging a dead horse is an appropriate analogy here).
Yays for teh god, hes teh c00lest would have been a more appropriate post, at least then you wouldn't be trying to pass this off as subjective logic and feel that religion = intelligence, which it certainly does not.

Everyone can be classified into one of three categories:
1. Those who feel a need to classify others.
2. Those who don't feel a need to classify others.
3. Those who defy or otherwise undermine another's classifications or the idea of classification.
I usually like to consider myself of the thrid category, except when I don't feel like it.
I know and understand the Word of God, as much as any mortal concievably could. Once, I even believed in God. I have since turned away from God, his word, and all of his churches, but not out of hate. There is no reason to hate that which doesn't exist or those that glorify a nonexistent being. Indeed, I feel that all hate is a fruitless exercise, a sentiment that the Churches echo but rarely practice. The most negativity I can muster is pity for those who follow a false belief and disappontment in myself for once falling victim to illogical superstition.
My faith is in myself and through myself, the universe. If there was a creator God, then I am his product and through me God works his supreme will, which is indeed indistinguishable from my own as my will was shaped by him. If there was no creator God, than I am myself the greatest being of the universe and my will is supreme. Thus, regardless of the true beginning, I am now justified in acting however I wish. If that brings me into conflict with anyone or anything else, it is my divine responsibility to crush all opposition as best I am able, just as it would be your responsibility to try to crush me. When I die, my purpose will have been fulfilled regardless of the outcome.
