remove fog of war for eliminated players
This will allow an eliminated player to watch the game to the end instead of just seeing all question marks.

It already happens...Piestar wrote:Absolutely. However being able to see the Game Log in the clear, AFTER the game has ended, would be nice.
I simply don't know if it's possible...

It didn't always happen - the FOW code was upgraded about a week after it was put in with this change...Piestar wrote:I'll be darned, you're right. I was so sure I checked, and it didn't... The magic Yeti strikes again... thanks!

A Very Good Option for "FOG OF WAR" Games
I was discussing with another player in a recent feudal war match (Fog On) about how annoying it is that when you are eliminated early from a Game with fog on (in his case, eliminated 1st in an intense feudal match), you can only chat..but cannot see how the game progressed, and exactly how it concluded.
This is frustrating because:
1) You played in the game, invested time, and would like to see how the other players handle the board layout
2) You, being a participant, influenced the game, and therefore it's outcome...and without doubt want to see how you impacted the board and/or possible winning player
I am sure many people can think of other reasons why it is frustrating. Sitting and chatting with others if fun and all, but since they cant tell you what is going on (in case their rivals got some important info!), and since the board is blank...you are left with nothing to do but curse yourself for losing.
So here is Our proposal:
---------------------------
When a player is eliminated in a FOG match, they should be given 2 options for their after-game participation:
1) CHAT ON / FOG STAYS
or
2) CHAT OFF / FOG LIFTED
--
This way, the eliminated player could either chat..and continue with the game banter...or they could watch the game finish, without being able to participate in the game chat (in order to not spoil /influence the game by seeing the board and yelling out positions etc).
I think this is a valid suggestion, and wonder what not only the game designers and mods think, but also the general public! I think this would enhance the gamers playing experience.
Thanks!!

No. Wait like everybody else. Current participants are the only people who should see it. Anybody in the audience, whether you were previously in the game, do not get to see. It's kept this way for a reason. Eliminated players should get no special treatment as opposed to any other member of the audience.

Agreed. And it wouldn't work to just stop PM's between members of the game, because an eliminated player would just PM an unaffiliated (is that the right word?) player, who would then PM the still-active player. The only way this could work would be to revoke the players' PM privileges until the game ends.yeti_c wrote:What about PM...

FOW and eliminated players
Can you make eliminated players exempted from FOW limitations?
I would like to see the map when I get eliminated from FOW enabled game. Even though I'm already eliminated, I still want to watch how the battles play out.

Re: FOW and eliminated players
then you'd be able to tell one of the players remaining where everyone is.

Re: FOW and eliminated players
ya, but wouldn't you have to use the game chat to do that? That would really be an invite to the ignore list.
Re: FOW and eliminated players
no, you could send them a pm, an email, tell them during class or many other ways. most of the ways would be very hard to prove happened.

touche.
i guess that shoots down that. I really wanted to watch what's happening though.

Re: FOW and eliminated players
yes it does. which is unfortunate because i would like to be able to see what is going on as well.
i would settle for a replay of the game after it finishes. one that had say 5 second intervals showing the turns so i could see the deployment and advancing of my opponents. i know i can read the log but seeing it would make it easier to comprehend.

Disable Fog of war after a player has been eliminated?
Concise description:
- Disable fog of war for a given player after that player has been eliminated
- By disabling fog of war for a given player after he/she has been eliminated, you would allow them to watch the rest of the game, instead of just seeing a full map full of grey ? marks.
- You would be better able to judge the skills of other players in the game, even those you did not directly border at any given point in the game (especially valuable for leaving more detailed feedback)
- you would be better able to understand what had gone on in the game, and evaluate you're strategy for future reference
Re: Disable Fog of war after a player has been eliminated?
Already suggested and rejected, on the premise that it is too open to abuse.

PB: 2661 | He's blue... If he were green he would die | No mod would be stupid enough to do that

A very similar suggestion was made in the Spectate option for fog of war games thread. Both this suggestion and that one are susceptible to intentional and unintentional abuse.

After Elimination
I think that after you are eliminated from a game, the fog of war should go away for you, that way you can watch the game progress ifyou desire.....especially in speed rounds.
Re: After Elimination
It would be nice, but too many ways to cheat that way.
I've often thought the same about "railbirds", people that watch a game that aren't in it. It'd be nice to be able to see where everyone was, and what they were doing, but again, you could exploit the hell out of that with a multi. The last thing we need is more multis.
