Ohhh. Gotta be Pistol Pete Maravich. Funny, I thought him when I first saw the question, but figured it had to Big O. Surprised you'd pick a Tiger, Neph

I'm not sure that's it. Neph said that the guy in question played in the same conference as Ralph Sampson (Virginia), so we're looking for an ACC player. Plus, given his stated preferences, I'd wager money that the guy in question went to UNC.

ahh, here we go the flurry of answers, must be monday:

jason kidd: only played 2 years at Cal, didn't reach any of the plateaus

patrick ewing: naturally he did not have the assists

pete maravich: all time leading scorer in basketball history (for perspective, ewing had 2184 in 4 years at georgetown, the pistol had 3667 in 3 years, for 44.2 pts/game! also he was from NC! but he didn't have the rebounds, let alone the assists

ray felton: closest so far! he didn't get the 1,000 assist mark either.....that level is actually a HUGE accomplishment

JJ Redick? I don't know many point guards in the ACC (probibly know more than I think I do) but I'm a Wisconsin fan, so I know more about the Big Ten than ACC (maybe more than ESPN cause all they talk about is SEC  )

nope, reddick wasn't a point guard and i'm sure didn't have the rebounds....he's too much of a fairy to get down in the trenches....

and why would ESPN spend much time covering a no talent conference like Big Ten? mwahahahaha........

Naw, he played in the Big East, off-guard to beat. Lucas? Thinking of any ACC point guard I can.

not forte, he was a shooting guard....

lol, if you can't remember star players from elite basketball programs less than 10 years ago, it's not a difficult question, it probably means you're a young 'un

this player is 3rd in all-time NCAA assists and owns the single season ACC mark for assists......he's from brooklyn and didn't make the NBA (too short, i guess)

No freakin' clue... tho I did pretty much check out of college basketball for the most part between, say, 1999 and 2004, so I'm not the most well-informed bloke on the subject.

all rite then, his name was ed cota, slick brooklyn point guard, started all 4 years, went to the final four 3 of them. ended up third all time in NCAA assists, altho this still only rates him 3rd in the ACC, as bobby hurley is number 1 and chris corchiani of NC state is 2.......they are the only 3 players to top 1,000 assists.

as noted, cota also set the single season ACC assist mark, i believe in his sophomore year. he was the PG on the amazing vince carter and antawn jamison teams. he was a wizard at passing the ball and just so smooth it was unbelievable, and if he couldn't find a teammate in a spot to score, he had a super reliable floater that was perfect for scoring at will. and the only player to ever have over 1K points and assists and 500 boards. but gets no cred and isn't even remembered for some reason!

now plays in israel but still lives in chapel hill in the offseason. first up gets the next question

Interesting, I had no idea.

The holdout of which two pitchers facilitated the end of the reserve clause in baseball? Yes, that question was worded strangely. No, I don't care.
