Constellations Map
Constallation of Stars
Hey, first post for me here. The idea I have is for a map based on Constellations of stars in the sky. I've had a search of the forums and haven't seen any mention of this. Has it been thought of before? I'm not exactly experienced in this area, but I'd like to have a go at it if no one is working on it already.

That sounds cool... you would get bonuses for controlling all of Libra, or all of Taurus. I hope you give it a shot, I'd play on it...Ogrecrusher wrote:Hey, first post for me here. who?
Who would be the best person to ask, regarding the flexibility of XML?
I'm hoping for a combination of know-how, and friendly... I have what seems like a wild idea for a map, but I'm not sure if it will work...
I have a half-powered version of it in my head already, but going full throotle would obviously be the way to... if I can make it work...

Re: who?
Yeti_c definitely has the has the know-how and seems friendly enough. Perhaps you could ask Coleman too. OR just post your question here and someone will give it a shot (will the answer be right?).Piestar wrote:Who would be the best person to ask, regarding the flexibility of XML?

Re: CC Forum Map
but who would decide what counts as a "major thread"?The Weird One wrote:yes, with all the major threads making up each forum
Because, Spamalot is easily the longest thread in Social Lounge, but im sure there are many, many people here that would completely oppose Spamalot becoming a country on a map...

new york belonged to the dutch as wellColeman wrote:Well I finally have something barely worthy of posting.
Initial Draft
Major Issues
Holland vs Netherlands
While I agree that Netherlands is the technically correct term, Holland is often used interchangeably with it by both people that live there and several places in the outside world, especially frequently in the time period this map is shooting for. So I decided I liked Holland better. I wouldn’t be against changing it to Netherlands though if people really think that would be better.
Great Lakes looks like crap, or at least more so then the rest of the ‘map’
Portugal looks like crap also.
Caribbean area is not very well defined.
Territory count, names, configuration, size all need work.
For instance, some territories are outrageously small, others are more like continents that I would want to break up. Some that I want to be continents aren't very big. Several have dumb placeholder names that should change. ALl the starter locations (except the british and the dutch colonies) are going to be broken up a bit so they aren't touching so much. France/Spain/Lakota is definitely a situation I am not liking proximity wise.
An example of a few break ups I probably will do, Western, Central, & Eastern Cuba. West Indies & Dominica instead of just saying everything that isn't Cuba is West Indies. I definitely favor a lot more territories then I have now, if I can figure a way to get the numbers and names to fit.
Spain's colony might present some balancing issues due to it's closeness with so many starting areas. I could probably work in some things to help with that or eliminate routes but I'll probably develop everything more before I worry about it too much.
I don't know very much about South America, or at least not as much as I'd like, and I still don't like how big it is compared to what I would consider the more important American area, but I'm biased.
Oh yeah, I stole and poorly colorized WidowMaker's unused anchors from Great Lakes, I hope he doesn't mind. They may not be staying on this map either. And if they are I'll color them better soon.
Stuff I wouldn't mind
I'd really like cool flag background textures for the Europe territories like in Great Lakes, WidowMakers has agreed to do graphics later, so that may happen.
I also like the way bonuses are presented in Great Lakes with the mini map.
I kind of want a single territory to be significantly valuable (+4?) but with 10 or 12 starting neutrals in it. This territory would be Oregon. This may be a horrible idea, but I like it for some reason.

Some map ideas
Mother Russia, Vietnam (during the Vietnam War), New York City, the Carribbean Islands during the Pirate Era, the Civil War, the Revolutionary War, and many others
Ok this is a bit random but what about doing a map on the Social structure of russia at 1900?

Sorry for doing this on paint but it was the easiest way to show how it could work.
I was thinking that it could be like Circus Maximus where you can only attak upwards. And at the top you can attack down to the bottom (the Tsar attacking the people) and then the military in the middle, We will shoot you, can attack certain spots above and below (stopping riots).
Also each class would be a bonus with higher at the bottom and lower at the top. I think that with a good map maker this could be a very interesting map.

Newhon
I'd quite like to see a map based on the world of Newhon, as in the Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser books by Fritz Leiber. Not sure how it would work though, so I'm going to go away and have a think on it.

Could someone please fix the Germany map? It may be in Progress, but if not it needs a total overhaul. There are city names mixed with state names and many of the places aren't even in the right places. I noticed this when I first played the Germany map, but I didn't know about this forum or I would have posted sooner.

Some ideas
I am thinking that Mother Russia and perhaps Vietnam during the Vietnam War would be good maps. Also, we could do New York City, Korea(North or/and South), Paris France, the Roman Empire, Antartica, China, and possibly the Civil War and Revolutionary Wars.
