Well, Ogier are basically humanoid type of people that live in Steddings. They are tall, can live for several centuries (500 years or so) and tend to stay out of human battles. But Stedding are basically a sheild against evil things. And you should keep them. That way, if a person can control all of the Stedding, they can get a bonus of some sort.Gnome wrote:I should almost make it like midkemia...for the gameplay to be attractive, I found a map with some capitals...maybe if I make something like this?
I only don't know what the 'Ogier steddings' are...are they inportant? or invented by the creator of this map? it's an rpg map made for a forum...

alright, I think I found some good stuff about it
on this site I can find all exact borders and backgrounds...
http://encyclopaedia-wot.org:8008/geography/index.html
and this is the map that I use as example, I ll need to watch out for copyright again...it says 'do not reproduce without permission'...should I contact or just make it all my own like midkemia?

Portal Stones is what you are talking about.Piestar wrote:It's been years, but didn't this series have locations from which you could travel great distances? Almost like magical portals or jump gates?
Oh, and it wouldn't hurt to get permission from the creators.

Re: Hmmm...
Ahhh, yes, thank you. I may have to go back, and give the books a re-read... As I recall, there were two era's connected by reincarnated souls, correct?muy_thaiguy wrote:Portal Stones is what you are talking about.Piestar wrote:It's been years, but didn't this series have locations from which you could travel great distances? If so, a doubled map might be interesting, if there is room within 800X800 pixels...
Kinslayer!!!
Re: Hmmm...
Well sort of. There are portal stones which can take you to a portal stone in another world (think parallel universes), or another portal stone in the same world. The knowledge of how to use them has been lost for sometime, and when a main character used one for same world travel he sort of lost 4(?) months. Eh... whoops. I got a little carried away.Piestar wrote:It's been years, but didn't this series have locations from which you could travel great distances? Almost like magical portals or jump gates?
There are also the Ways, a very dangerous route that requires the ability to read guide stones. Very few can do that, mostly Ogier and some Aes Sedi...
There are so many things you could do with this map, the possibilities are pretty much endless. I really don't know where to start... I suppose the simplest thing to do is just go straight off the map, but I see so many other possibilities...
Anyway, assuming your just going off the map, I'd suggest using the Ways as jump-gates, but require a Stedding to be held before they are useable.

Just an fyi as far as rights issues go: the bloke that wrote all the books is recently deceased, so said rights might be in a bit of flux at the moment.
I actually read most of those books back in the day, but crapped out around book 8. That being said, this could make an interesting map.
But if you can't get the rights, you might as well do a fantasy map from scratch... and if you're going to do that, you'd be better served using a geographic concept that's not one big chunk o' land.

There have been a number of WoT theme things so I imagine it wouldn't be for sure totally impossible to get the rights. It's worth a shot.
