The Day After Pill

Postby TitusFinn on Mon Aug 07, 2006 11:15 am

Is the Food and Drug Administration really serious about approving Plan B, the "morning-after pill," for over-the-counter sales? Maybe.

I figured since seeing this sort of topic was creeping up in the For or Against Bush thread, I'd bring it to the forefront.

Personally, I have very little problems with this. A day after conception is not a big deal.

What if the condom slips off inside? It's happened to me before. You can't be 100%.

Sure you can - don't have sex unless you're willing to accept the consequences. (This applies more to STDs then kids, but it's the same principle.)

The consequences being that you have a 0.01% chance of pregnancy (with contraceptives that is). I mean by your argument, you should never fly unless you're willing to accept crashing etc.

Stds are a great reason not to fly, but there are times, even in a commited relationship when you can't afford to have a child. Yet, you can't ask people that are commited to control their feelings for each other. It's like telling the tree not to grow.

The pill shouldn't be available OTC since some asshole can buy it and dose anyone they feel like, with no consequence. It should be available by prescription only.

I don't think you should fly if you're not willing to accept the possibility of crashing. I don't really see how you can. Maybe pretending the plane can't crash helps you feel comfortable enough to fly, but it still might crash.

Accident happen

Postby barbie on Mon Aug 07, 2006 4:50 pm

There should be an age limit on who can buy them, but to have to go to a doctor to get a prescription for it is ridiculous. Accidents happen, things break, girls get drunk, guys get girls drunk lol, doctors are expensive. After finding someone to prescribe it you now have to find a pharmacy which is willing to dispense it.

If someone plans to be irresponsible and stupid, they should fill a prescription in advance (not referring to things break).

I think this should only apply to certain situations like rape or something like that making that easy to get i dont agree with its like giving kids an excuse to have sex young..... in the town ive grown up in its the normal thing to get preg. in highschool and get married young (im in ky lol) almost all the girls i was friends with in highschool has kids (BUT ME THANK GOD) but in places like these it wouldnt really be used cause kids are tying to get preg lol

and to add to this who cares if it is over the counter now i mean you can go to any hospital in your area or womans clinic and get it for free if your young enuff which is just so horrible.... its scary to think 13 year old girls are having sex i have a sister that age omg i dont even want to think about it

I have to agree with Zandar and Caleb. I don't like the idea at all, it's just a safety net for underage sex. If you don't want to deal with the "consequences" don't have the sex. I think the pill and abortions are both terrible things. :x

qee ur all wrong if we encouraged teens to go out and have sex we would have another baby boom era lol plus we would have a much higher rate of sexualy transmitted diseases in younger people .. more young mothers turning to drugs and whoring themselves out to get money to take care of the children more young men in jail for back childsupport its a very complicated thing that should be taught in school i think if the kids knew all the facts and things that come from being young and getting preg i doubt they would do it or they would be more safe doing it

It wasn't a serious comment. But your reply was so hard to read.

Nah, I agree with you guys, having thought about it more. Though I think society's perception of sex is fucked up in general.

Our society is fucked up when it comes to sex. I mean come on! You can show a severed head on TV, but you can't show a breast. Seriously, it's really up to education, like Kylie said. The parents too. But the choice should be mine, not my neighbors.

I think there should be more education in the home and at school. Parents are so scared or embaressed to talk to their kids about it that they dont, and schools are scared by giving to much info they wont know it to do it!!! lol Yeah right. The school i went to we didnt haev sex ed we had health were they taught us how baby's were born and going thru puberty not anything about sex protection or sexualy transmitted diseases. All these kids know is everyone is doing it and guys make it a game and girls do it to get attention or affection that was missing in the home... Its really messed up

What's wrong with a good severed head? You must be one of those brutes who chased Vesalius out of Padua. Clinging to taboos against dissection is just as prudish.

hardly any schools teach sex ed, they teach abstinence and they wont even hear of actually having sex, a womens body is a womens body, she dont want the kid then fine get rid of the life form inside, the brain dont develop till much later in the pregnancy anyways so you cannot really call it sentient since its not self aware..

ontop of that you can tell when a condom breaks, or when it slips off trust me there is a compleatly diff feeling... you make that excuse ill tell you to go to hell kindly... tell me its the heat of the moment and passion was at its peak im more likely to believe... but in a world where we have hormones pumped into our cows and thus into our kids and we end up having 13 year olds having sex... and 9 year olds having their first periods... eh... at a young age it is not only the girl its also the boys life that it could be ruining, telling kids not to have sex is telling a cat in heat not to have sex with all the males around them, its going to happen, turn a blind eye if you want but it will happen, parents need to give condoms, parents need to get their kids on the pill just in case, and even then they better watch out, my mother was on the pill and im around... only when used together can you be compleatly posotive that nothing will happen...

I almost got a girl preggy, and I told her (we were dating) that if she ends up preggy i wont marry her for the sake of a kid... (she would have been the type to tell me she was so she could try and keep me forever) and she didint end up preggy ill help raise the child, give money to help the child live and grow up, be a father, but that does not mean ill marry a women just because she is having my kid, and that ex now, we never had unprotected sex except that one time when the condom broke and it was right before i was about to cum any movement in or out would have made me blow my load, even her muscles just moving did it.. there was no way to avoid it... abstinence only works if you have fear, and no kids are smart enough to think about kids until it almost happens..

its almost impossible because of the christian groups, the people who the schools get to teach sex ed, or come in and talk, they almost always are the christain groups that push only abstinence, i watched a show called Penn & Teller: Bullshit and they went out and prooved all of this true... no one listens to abstinence it is failing and has been for quite some time but they never change their tune, there are very few schools with actual teachers that will give any info on sex, mine happened to give directions to a clinic because he knew all kids were gonna have sex at some point...
