You can't buy these things, like happyness. However in most cases renting them is sufficient, you got to die sometimejako wrote:1. money can buy u love, its love as long as there is moneyTitanic wrote:On romance/love, in certain areas of politics, in war, in friendship. eh i dunno...she finds a way to live a rather opulent lifestyle and attract a far amount of media attention and publicity....id say the money that she does have does sort of equate to power in that sense. I would think the ability to draw influence to yourself and to achieve that high level of celebrity status translates into a form of power...and its certainly a power that is beholdent on her maintaining her vast fortune to keep.Iliad wrote:If you have power most likely you will have money. That assumes that those without money will desire it more than those without, which is not necessarily true.btownmeggy wrote:The lack of money is the root of all evil?Arbustos wrote:No, the lust for money is the root of all evil. Maybe.lduke1990 wrote:money is the root of all evil

Even those with money, are still lacking some.qeee1 wrote:That assumes that those without money will desire it more than those without, which is not necessarily true.btownmeggy wrote:The lack of money is the root of all evil?Arbustos wrote:No, the lust for money is the root of all evil. Anyway, I don't really believe what I said up there... it's logical conclusion would lead to wildly capitalistic (maybe even anarcho-capitalistic!!) ends. Eek.
The reason I mentioned war is that money alone is not enough. Look at the Iran-Iraq war, and the war in Iraq atm. The side which has so much more money and resources is losing. Look at Vietnam as well. Its about tactics and strategy more then money.Fircoal wrote:1 and 4 aren't true, in most cases, but odd you said war and potitics. The topic is "money = power", which in politics is not strictly true. Money itself will never buy you an election, or a position in the cabinet, you yourself need to be half worthy to have the position, and also with politics, if you screw up the media will make sre you dont get another position now matter how rich you are (in UK politics anyway, dunno bout US)

if u look at the US, each time there is a presidential campaign, millions of dollars are spent on campaigning, if the candidates dont have money, how would they advertise that they are the best choice to vote for?Titanic wrote:The reason I mentioned war is that money alone is not enough. both wars, if u look at it closely are based on guerilla tactics, which in a sense is not truely a war. in the vietnam war, the north used the jungles to do ambushs and then run away. there was no confrontation between 2 oppposing forces that normal leads to a large battle or multiple battles like a real war.
same for iraq, the main combatent is the US, but the opposing force? merely a bunch of guys, using their own people as a shield so that they can plant some bombs or shoot rockets safely behind innnocent citizens of their own country which they claim to be fighting for. then they run away and the US although fighting in a war, ar still bounded by international rules that does not allow them to unleash their full might, less innocent people die by the hands of their own countrymen.
ps my statements about love/frienship and money, it may be a little biased as i haev been burned a few times by ex-gfs, and backstabbing friends. i will admit that money has a lesser influence on them than other aspects of life.

Time to retire this much loved sig of mine with a new clan.
Be it a guerilla war, but its still a war. The USA puts something like £500m for the military every year, but still cant beat a bunch of people in Iraq. Its tactics and strategy, and thats how the VietCong won, and thats how the insurgent sin Iraq are beating the USA at the moment.jako wrote:if u look at the US, each time there is a presidential campaign, millions of dollars are spent on campaigning, if the candidates dont have money, how would they advertise that they are the best choice to vote for?Titanic wrote:The reason I mentioned war is that money alone is not enough. In politics, I know money plays a crucial part for campaigning, but if the people and the party are no good, the campaigning is not going to help. Money only plays a part after the basic foundations are good enough.
