There are rules to a game and then there's the sportsmanship of a game.

Technically, alstergren isn't breaking rules of CC but he is damn well playing in extremely poor taste and sportsmanship. To my mind, that's just as bad as cheating. I am his latest victim to fall for his "wait until the last minute and f*ck the guy over" tactic of his.

Check out these games:

http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=816556

"2007-09-01 19:36:12 - Incrementing game to round 2"
"2007-09-01 19:41:00 - alstergren receives 3 armies for 11 territories"
blah, blah, blah
"2007-09-01 19:41:12 - Sir Titus ran out of time"
"2007-09-01 19:41:12 - Incrementing game to round 3"
"2007-09-01 19:41:16 - alstergren receives 4 armies for 12 territories"

He waited until 12 seconds were left. Then played his turn. I don't have enough time to react. I miss my turn. He starts the next turn and decimates me.

http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=816129

Same thing against joose.

http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=764605

Same thing against Gengoldy.

http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=680852

Not a speed game but same thing against Easy.

http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=639148

And against Sameereemas.

http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=601138

And against naikelea.

Need I go on? And, to top it off, he leaves negative feedback for all these guys, including myself, because we are correctly pissed off and call him on his dishonourable tactics.

Where's the honour? Where's the sportsmanship?

Sir Titus - one pissed off bastard.

I played almost 4,800 games and left almost no feedback. I hate the feedback system and thats coming from the player with the second highest positives too. So I agree with you, I would not have left feedback for that. But, you do receive double armies next round and know exactly what time to play since you have 24 hours. Wait for the next round to begin, deploy your double armies and fight back and end your turn before him. its not that hard to do.

or if you play 2nd, let time run out and begin the next round. than you start with double armies and can end your turn first. giving you the next round to start first.

either way, thats called freestyle. if players dont like it, than dont play it.

no matter what, it should not be grounds for leaving feedback.

I actually received a feedback where the player saw me do it in another game vs a different player....NOT EVEN HIM and I was told the feedback stands. Thats just rediculous. Players are now permitted to leave feedback for other games they are not playing in. Look at the response from turtle. he never missed a turn and still left feedback about it because he saw me do it in another game.

And from the Terminator Experiment Thread:

JOHNNYROCKET24 wrote:2 players left me feedback for it and again...you see me bitching about it ?

You attempted the double turn on Turtle twice. Even though he didn't miss his turn, having to sit around for 24 hours to make sure he didn't get screwed made the game not fun for him. His feedback makes perfect sense.

I'm really glad to see more players speaking out against this tactic.

We call it a loophole because it's slated to be fixed in the near future. In no other game can someone force another person to miss a turn and not give them the alloted 24 hours (and now 5 minutes too) to take their turn, as promised by the mere definition of a "24-hour" game. This catches many off-guard, to which some of you take advantage of for easy points.

As for you feedback, do you really think we don't look at the game logs? Yes you did do it to him, gave him like a minute to play so he ran out of time. So get your facts straight before complaining. As I'm sure you've already been told, feedback stands. No need to keep whining about it.

Feedback is a tool to advise other players how you play, that is all these people are done. If you don't want the feedback, don't play that way.

I agree that there are some players here that will do 'whatever it takes' to haul in the points. A thing I have problems understanding is why do we let it become such an issue as to spoil our overall experience?

One of the really nice points about this CC site is the 'ignore' option. We've all got names on our 'ignore' list that have been added because of the type of player/s that we've met here.

I know that the 'current' game can be a real bummer with folks like that in it, but when it's over, push the ignore button. End of frustration!!

Eventually, the offensive one will run out of people to play with and will have to be satisfied with defeating newbies who won't have nearly as many points to win, and hopefully will realize how small the satisfaction level is in taking a newbies points.

I can't speak realistically about the strategies of the 'free style' game because I learned early that I didn't like that type of game, so I just chose to play the other options. I would only say that, if a person wants to stay with 'free style', recognize going in that these different stratagies exist and be ready to deal with them.

Also, a thing I do before I join any game is to look over some of the games the other players have played and I see how they interact in the game chat. I also like to check to see if they are the type that will consistantly 'miss turns'. Doing this lets me know how I'm likely to be treated in my game, and make decisions based on that knowledge.

There's never any shortage of games to join into and there's always the opportunity to build your own games where you can 'invite' others to join you.

Enjoy, and don't let anyone steal your joy. It's in your control.. :)

LOL.

(1) Learn how to use the quote function properly.

(2) I gave him a neg. feedback for being over-the-top abusive followed by a deadbeating.

I have deadbeated myself and rightly been given neg. feedback for it myself. I have also been vulgar and abusive in game chats and rightly been given neg. feedback for it myself.

Too many people take this game way too serious and in their small minds they expect and demand people to play in certain ways.

I find that the fact that it's explictly stated that a round can take up to 24 hours together with the fact that people voluntarily joins/starts a public game with certain settings should be enough to prevent crap like this from being ok as feedback.

Best piece of irony I have ever read :D
Like setting an alarm one minute before cut off ISNT taking a game seriously...hee hee hee

I say if players want to exploit the loophole then good luck to them but they shouldnt whine if their opponents feel cheated and post neg feedback.

And you've been exploiting a loophole and been given many negative feedbacks for it (as well as newbies complaining in neutral feedbacks because they're too scared or unsure of themselves to give a mighty Major a negative feedback). Those negative feedbacks will keep on coming in as you continue to play the way you play. And, eventually, when you've got 20... 30... 40 negative feedbacks, even the newbies will think twice about joining your games.

I, however, will sit on my one or two negative feedbacks (given to me in spiteful retaliation like yours was, no doubt) happily playing against all the honest and upright players on CC.

LOL. I can see why it may look ironic...

Well. I don't mind if people post neg. feedback (as long as they do it in a fair way). However, that doesn't mean that I don't find it strange when people complain. If you start or join a game with the freestyle setting, you enter into it with open eyes. If you can't handle freestyle, play sequential.

I would also think that: (i) People should be happy to learn some new tricks. There are many good tricks in CC, and for everything you learn, I would think that's good. (ii) I'm particularly amazed to see a high-ranking player claiming to be totally unaware of the de facto double turn, then starting cursing, crying and deadbeating in a 5-minute speed game. That's just ridiculous. He should know better. Or at least behave better.

Really crappy, cheap Tactic; after STOOOKER used this tactic in a game he had all but lost, I gave him a neg and ignored him instantly. It ruined a good game and is the reason i do not play freestyle at all.

Saying this, I would play First and Titus in Freestyle as they are honourable and decent players!

As we can see there are different opinions about whether it is okay (sportsmanship-wise) to exploit the flaws in freestyle games.

Our feedback moderators are not there to judge opinions. They will only moderate a feedback when there is something clearly wrong with it, like if it was misrepresenting facts. So even if most of us agree the opinion is wrong, the feedback will stand.

So I can give someone a NF such as this.
This person is a terrible player, and lost the game.
He is a loser, and should not be played with again, by anyone who does not want to take his points.

?
Also, if you take a look at the game log, I never made him miss his turn, he missed them on his own.
I honestly don't see why my feedback record should be screwed up because someone doesn't like the time I take my turns at.

There is a Reason I have never asked to have My neg feedback removed. it is because it does more damage to the writer than me. John you are a great player, no one holds anything against you for having a neg or 2. The friends who read it laugh, the ones who put you on ignore - saves you the effort of doing the same.

sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!!!
