Experienced players, I need a ruling.
I recieved a PM yesterday from Mr.X and he told me he was playing for his friend because he had to work. The takeover supposedly happend after the second round. The PM was not sent until after the game was over.
Personally, I was not too bothered by this, but I do think that players deserve to know who they are playing against. I would have been satisfied with a PM when the takeover took place.
I am curious about what others think about the ethics of this situation. What is the proper protocal in this situation?
I won't mention names because I like the players (non-stache) and don't think they are cheaters.
P.S. Yes, I am a proud member of the Staches and yes this is a serious question.
Thank you

Hmmm... That's a good question. Have been wondering about that myself. When I first started playing here, having an account-sitter like that would have been unthinkable to me since I've played Hattrick for more than two years (there you have an absolute prohibition to handle your friends account, do it once, they find out and you're banned). Here, it seems to be ok and it seems to be done now and then. But I haven't really seen a real discussion about what protocol to follow. Last week and the week before I changed my password and gave it to a friend since I was out travelling and didn't know whether or not I would be able to log in once every 24 hour. I never bothered to pm anyone or write something in a game chat since all my games were team games anyway and my game list were pretty long before I left. I guess it could be a good thing to announce it before (if for nothing else, for being polite).
I guess though that at some point in time such forms of account-sitting could turn into a de facto double account. But as long as the account-sitter isn't starting any new games and doesn't play in the same standard games as the guy who's away, it should be fine. About telling/asking? Dunno. Would be interesting to read a discussion about it.

Dunno about that. Especially if you're in various time zones games can be dragged out for a week or two. Had one game where this guy had to leave (after like 8 days). We were pissed at first since we thought he deadbeated, but it was a planned trip. He should have given out his password to his partner I guess. But, well, well...motts444 wrote:Best plan: Make sure you're able to finish your games before you leave.

i tend to announce it in game chat and say that i am letting another player take my turns while i am away. i also say that any objections should be sent to the player taking my turns. i hav been in a game where i was only going to b missing 1 turn and i knew this a couple of days in advance so i asked for opinions on wehether to let my doubles partner (from the same game) take my turns or whether to just miss 1. all players agreed that i could let him take my turns so it was all ok.
there aren't any particular rules when it comes to this but you should announce it in game chat and also ask if anyone has any objections. most of the time i will agree because otherwise the whole game gets slowed down by someone missing turns

This conversation like so many amazes me!! So many issues being discussed that simply waste time. To me it all comes to this: Play your own games, don't cheat and conduct yourself with honour/dignity...I should remark that on my travels with CC i have encountered some truely fine people but also some amazingly ignorant ones..Wish we could get rid of the ignorant ones!! (sigh)......

How does asking other players if what was happening against me is cheating, a waste of time?aceofcups wrote:This conversation like so many amazes me!!
