Well, tying events to character deaths is one way to add interesting twists into the game; however, you have to be prepared for the event to never happen in that case. I would just warn you against forced character deaths - that is, don't make a role where, no matter what, halfway through the game that character dies.
err, maybe you misunderstood my question, or maybe i just don't understand your answer. i'm talking about sudden rule changes in the middle of a game, tied to the death of a fictional character. for example in my scenes, usually those killed by the mafia/lynched will have their identities revealed by fictional police officers, or townies, etc.Aimless wrote:Well, tying events to character deaths is one way to add interesting twists into the game; however, you have to be prepared for the event to never happen in that case. but i want to ask a question..i'm thinking of starting a mafia game, and is it possible to have twists in the storyline that may involve modkilling players, instead of just a plain vanilla game being controlled by the players?
If it was just you randomly killing somone at your discretin, don't do it. If there was a random death that takes place then it could be ok depending on how it ties into the game. I know in my Civil War game they'll be some random deaths that take place every 3 game days. Each participant for an army will pm me a number and based upon that deaths will happen via a battle. It will be explained fuller in my rules section. I don't want to give out too much ahead of time.

It could work depending on how you set it up. In Batman, we had something similair happen on I think Night 3 or was it 4? Either way mass killings took place that night along with roles switching for some. Also there were a few "locked" roles that weren't known about until a certain type of event happened. For example, I was Robin in that game. I had doctor skills the first few days. After the crazy night, I was unable to protect myself and Batman lost his bulletproof vest. On that crazy night, we also got Batgirl to join us as masons and serve as a cop role for us. When Batman was killed by the scum, I had the option of either staying a doc to protect Freezie(Batgirl) or else become a Vigilante to avenge Batman's death. Other players in the game had similair type of situations come up for them to make a choice.Hitman079 wrote:err, maybe you misunderstood my question, or maybe i just don't understand your answer. i'm talking about sudden rule changes in the middle of a game, tied to the death of a fictional character. for example in my scenes, usually those killed by the mafia/lynched will have their identities revealed by fictional police officers, or townies, etc.Aimless wrote:Well, tying events to character deaths is one way to add interesting twists into the game; however, you have to be prepared for the event to never happen in that case. I think roles guaranteed to die are ok, maybe as long as it isn't sudden random mod-kils unrelated to the game. In a Godfather game I designed (although it needs a lot of tweaking) there is a role who will die in the first few days for the game flow to work but he knows it and theres a lot he can do before he dies to help out his side. If I ever run this game it will probably be october/november and it will take a lot of time and effort I suspect as it will be non-vanilla over 20 players and will also include a number of invented roles.

and have been thinking about a way where the mafia are the good guys, I came up with the idea, a while ago, but I haven't used it yet.Hitman079 wrote:i'm thinking of a prison-themed game.. where the mafia are actually the good guysand out to get the snitches..
although it could go both ways.

You bring ill tidings indeed, jnd. Quickly, let us sacrifice a fattend n00b and pray to the Gods to bring Lion back to us. Of course, it might not work, but there is no harm in trying.jnd94 wrote:hes not on CC as much. I must argue that charles77 is a better candidate. Check the jury duty mafia thread for why.jnd94 wrote:may I suggest a mr. 00jake00, Im sure the gods would love seeing him up in heaven, instead of pestering us here on CC. *grabs hunting spear*mandalorian2298 wrote:You bring ill tidings indeed, jnd.
