Dom, yes it's a pheonix feather in it..but the wand wood is not pheonix.

Anyway..2 spells get into there for your question:

First was a levitating spell, casted by Dobby. Althought he only got a warning.

Second was spero Patronum, protecting his cousin duddly. He had to go to the ministry for doing so.
