And how is that different from Australla on the classic map, only on this map many countries can attack it instead of just Saim.Skittles! wrote:If they're one way.. then when someone get's the yellow continent, they can just have it and have to only defend Mourneo because the arrows are stopping another attack route in.Fircoal wrote:One way.Skittles! wrote:With the Arrows, are they meaning one way attack, or both ways?
Another thing; the legend isn't all the straight, and will you eventually put the font sizes down to a smaller size so it doesn't press up and be confined in the legend?![]()
And I probably will if people think I should.

OMG that is an amazing idea.unriggable wrote:Cool would be if you could have like some crucial territories be heavily fortified by neutral. I'm thinking ten to fifteen troops - to represent alien animals.
We could start each player with just a few territories on the home planet and human ships. All the alien ships could have 10-15 neutrals on them, which would represent the alien's armies. But the alien ships would have to be vital for victory (you would need to take them out to win, or something similar forcing you to attack them)

One team starts as aliens and the other team starts as humans. fight to the death.

coleman, waclimbing and unriggable....if you start any map with many neutrals, you may need to add a statement to the map as I had to do with battle for Australia where i had 18 neutrals, to advise players that the map would start with neutral terts. Otherwise players think there is something awry with the xml code and they all end up asking if this is deliberate and lackattack and andy get lots of emails about it....only a thoughtful warning about deplaying lots of neutrals!wcaclimbing wrote:OMG that is an amazing idea.unriggable wrote:Cool would be if you could have like some crucial territories be heavily fortified by neutral. Do you mean the continent bonuses?cena-rules wrote:I like this.
Bonuses need to be shrunk.

Purple4=
Green=3
Orange=4
Silver=5
Yellow=3
Teal=4
Bonus block I mean impassable borders between squares in the same bonus.
The title should be white and stand out

That's what I think anyway.
i can coordiante and put all the pieces of the map and also smooth everything over if everyones happy with that?
For the space stations i think Telvannia and DiM could work together to create some pretty mean shit.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

i was pointed to this thread by gimil. i'm leaving now but i'll post some thoughts later when i get to work.
at a quick glance i like the idea.

“In the beginning God said, the four-dimensional divergence of an antisymmetric, second rank tensor equals zero, and there was light, and it was good. And on the seventh day he rested.”- Michio Kaku
I'm not sure we have the same visions here. I was looking for one major alien planet and then 6-8 other alien races wanting it at the same time, each represented by a player. One of those races was going to be human, but that still leaves 5-7 other playable races I was planning on being different aliens. I wasn't looking for a human (player) vs alien (neutral) scenario.
However, I can see the interest in having lots of alien planets instead of just one big one. I know you want me to come up with a sketch but other then image manipulation to make it a map I don't really have any big ideas other then what I've already put forward.
EDIT: Actually, thinking more about it. Humans don't have much of a history of getting along with each other. There could probably be more then one human 'race' here competing for this planet (or planets) and its (their) resources.

basically coleman wants:
1. A single planet under invasion
2. 6-8 space stations all of different races who are looking to take over the planet
My ideas:
1. i think victory condition should be total domination of the planet.
2. Rather than space stations have alien invasion fleet who have been sent to take this planet.
3. Fleets can only be attacked from a drop of point which tehy havve o the map

1) That or taking everyone else's stations. Not sure if we can have 2.gimil wrote:My ideas:

2) That works for me, or combinations, every race should behave differently about how they travel anyway, my idea was warping into a station, other races will probably do something else.
3) Agree completely, if I understand you right. Basically they have one path between the planet and their station/ship/fleet and it stays that way.
PS. Still not completely against the idea of more then one planet, wcaclimbing's art was amazing and I don't want to scare him away.

Joke aside, I think you made the right decision - some excellent pre-draft ideas and wonderful graphic previews here.
Sounds good to have an alternative to the usual victory condition of total domination.

I'm thinking 6 stations right now, the main problem with 8 stations using the current xml is that 2 & 3 player games will have people with 3 stations which is not going to be fair to the person with 2.
Now if we had the assigning ability based on player count in the xml that would make me more comfortable with 8 again, but right now it is a no.
That said I wanted to make something clear early about station/ship/fleet design for the races. Don't worry about needing a spot for army circles, I want things to display similar to below.
I consider this very much a placeholder image for the race in question.
The top portion is the territory name and the bottom is the race.
I was also going to do a brief history/story for each race as we add them. So I'll start with The Corporation now.
The Corporation (Human)

The Corporation's origin can be mapped back to the Information Age when the United States made a decision to change the way they funded their space program. Realizing their government could no longer sustain all its programs with their new national focus on destroying all terrorist organizations and rogue countries, their congressional government decided to move several of the programs deemed less important than their crusade to corporate funding and ownership. The space program was one such program, and many big companies quickly jumped on board.
NASA, having more money then they ever did before, was able to greatly expand its research and development. Phenomenal discoveries were made, the most important being the discovery that all matter could be transformed into light and back. Much the same way a computer translates data back and forth from binary to communicate with us, mankind could now translate matter back and forth from light to communicate with space itself. Light speed travel became possible. Mankind learned to bend, throw, and capture light to transport massive objects vast distances. When life was successfully transported this way, humanity exploded outward into the universe.
and the corporations owned everything...
Throughout this whole process, through acquisitions, mergers, and stock transfers it became impossible to distinguish who owned what. All the companies agreed that it was much more efficient to become as one, to finally unite humanity as a single race. History records this as the Great Merger, and the start of the Corporate Age.
Global Inflation skyrocketed, only the rich could afford to comfortably live, terrorism and violence increased exponentially. The new Corporation, armed with 'acquired' alien technologies quickly crushed the rebellions. Rounding up the violent poor The Corporation enslaved them and used them as cheap labor, scouts, and colonists.
Humanity was one, with a clearly defined upper and lower class. Through time this division became instinctive and the lower class no longer resisted the will of the upper. The will of the corporation was the will of man, and never questioned.
Which brings us to the situation now. The Corporation has discovered a new planet on the outskirts of their territory, which they have called 'Antigus Prime' after the new and current CEO Jeraldo Antigus. It will be the first planet acquired during his reign, and is planned to be a new base of operations for further acquisitions.
In what may be one of the greatest intelligence failures in Corporate history, humanity arrived in low numbers, thinking they were the only ones interested and aware of the system in which Antigus Prime resides. Other unknown alien forces working in the system were discovered shortly after arrival.
Unprepared, and with the corporation already stretched due to the transition of CEOs the simply named Corporate Station is largely on its own. Contracted militia will be sent to the station annually to assist, but the Corporate Station must start acquiring sections of the planet if it wishes to have any hope of success and survival. The other alien forces are hostile, and while the possibility of diplomacy exists, all sides don't want to share the planet.
From Antigus, BEGIN TRANSMISSION "Greetings Corporate Employees and interested civilians. It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of a recent mistake made by our scouting and intelligence divisions regarding Antigus Prime. It appears we are not alone and have lost what we believed to be a monopoly on the sector. Our planed acquisition of Antigus Prime has become a competitive merger. I would like you all to remain calm. I consider our current holdings my primary concern, but the people of Corporate Station will not be abandoned. We are planning to send periodic military reinforcements when we can spare them, and I know that those stationed there are very capable. I will be awaiting the news of our victory." END TRANSMISSION
Edit: Please nobody quote this entire thing with pictures.
