2v1
in a few games I've started with an early advantage due to troop placement, an by round fifteen or so i have a significant sized army with few, well defended borders and moderate to large continent bonuses. as i usually play 3 player games an the other two notice my expansion and call a truce for three to five rounds and attack only me. i always try to tell them if they want to play doubles play doubles but not in a three player game, this only works about one out of every ten times though. what should i do to combat this strategy?
Fool me once, strike one. Fool me twice, strike...three.

all u have to do is try to reverse it
example try to play the mentality of the 2 other players
example: blue u do realise if u attack my armies u and i will both lose and green will take over... he will take u out by the next chance etc. etc.
but if the 2 dont care and still cooporate then u can roll dead for the rest of the game

the problem is sometimes they take it too far and they don't stop until they kill youMeDeFe wrote:all legitimate as long as both play it smart and know when to stop. That is, as soon as the balance has been restored.

kill them quickly...seriously. I don't do too badly in 3 player games, but my basic strategy is to become very strong quickly. As an example, on classic, if you have oceania, you might want to reconsider the slow build up and amassing troops in favour of a quick burst that maybe takes over another continent, pref. Asia (of course you need to read the situation properely) but I've done this successfully in the third round and you usually only need 1 round with a big bonus to make all the difference. When you have Oceania, in most cases the other 2 opponents are trying to establish themselves in Africa and South America respectively, this is the best time to make your move, it's unexpected (well not after this) and their troops are usually in no position to wrestle your bonus away from you until the next round, which is usually too late.
Always focus on just one of your two opponents. If you try to divide your attention between the two of them or hold your position you will fail. Most of the time you can turn it into a 1v1 situation where you still have the advantage either by being successful in killing one yourself, or making one of them weak enough that the other person does it for you.

Kill the weakest, and turn in their cards to keep the stronger off balence. Waiting for them to chip away rarely, if ever works.

While this was probably intended to be a ridiculous negative suggestion with no merit he has somewhat of a point. In 3 player games it is actually usually best to be in 2nd place and to be vocal about not being in first place. The weakest player will probably help you.The1exile wrote:Stop looking like a threat. Some people have a hard time pointing out they aren't winning without coming off as negative, and any diplomatically skilled winning player will try to either denounce your claim or flip it around, so if you don't have the diplomatic skill necessary to pull it off don't say anything.

i would have to agree with exile. by playing a 3 way like i do a lot, u know that either u ar the 1 strong player or one of the weaker 2 players. there is no way around it. most of the time, u will get 2 players going at it, and the third of left alone to grow stronger. soon the other 2 players will realize this and force a truce among themselves. pretty soon, if they have successfully weakend the third strongest player, then one of them will go for the kill and try to take out the remaining player.
so if u really ar looking for the answer on how to stop this from happening, either dont be the strongest in a 3 way or stop playing 3 ways.

Time to retire this much loved sig of mine with a new clan.
Actully, it was intended to have a point.Coleman wrote:While this was probably intended to be a ridiculous negative suggestion with no merit he has somewhat of a point.The1exile wrote:Stop looking like a threat. Or stop playing 3 player games.
If you can't hold yourself being first, then don't be first. best thing to do is to withdraw from the battleground, let the other two duke it out and get ready to wipe out the weaker one before they have a chance to put aside their differences and work on killing you.
