Re: The Thing! Day 1
And I'm saying - which is where this started - do we? - shouldn't the alternative of lynching another and flamethrowing a positive BT be considered.
And as an argument for that consideration an under threat of lynch alternative would have a chance to claim being flamethrower holder or backup.
But backup would have no recourse if flamethrower holder torches them.
And also threat of lynching can throw out pressure and alignments.
So once/if you say there is an alternative to immediate lynching of a positive bloodtest there is a tactical discussion to be had as to what is best.

Re: The Thing! Day 1
That is an interesting question. If the thing is FT'ed at night, could he infected another before he dies? If that is true, then that infected should be lynched the next day, and if we miss lynch, he might multiply again? No, I don't think that would be fair, really?

Hey if you think this is the winning strategy - by not lynching the positive BT then elaborate further..Loose Canon wrote: Wed Sep 23, 2026 8:51 am And I'm saying - which is where this started - do we? - shouldn't the alternative of lynching another and flamethrowing a positive BT be considered.

If i hear you your plan goes like this:
LOOSE PLAN: If we have a positive BT (20% chance) we do not lynch it.
Instead we gor for somebody else hoping we get it right again (1/9 chance because you can't include the BT positive anymore) so thats a 2,22% chance in total to get them both right (1 on 45 because 2/10 x 1/9).
Then Mcready flames the BT positive during the night (assuming nothing goes FUBAR)..
Sounds about your plan?

Re: The Thing! Day 1
So if I have this straight LC does not want a blood test does not suggest anyone that we blood test and if there’s a positive blood test does not want us to flamethrower that person.

Just saying it seems pretty shady to me…

Re: The Thing! Day 1
Okay Loose, you made me check the archives..
So on night 2 Charle torched a "recruit Thing" and got recruited (infected by Thing) himself. So he lost the FT do to the infection (while falsly claiming the next day he still had it).
So, we can conclude, if the same set-up applies, both the FT action as the infection go through..
The Thing would be torched but Mcready gets infected (in the event both go for each other in the same night).

DDS posted that a "unlikely hero found the FT" that morning..degaston wrote: Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:34 amSorry, I don't believe you.Charle wrote:To my surprise, I have not received any mail from DDS. So I guess I still have my powers and can still torch, I am not converted.
The Things can't have the flamethrower - it would be overpowered to have a recruit and a vig.
Town can't have two flamethrowers - it would be overpowered to have a lynch and two vigs.
You had the flamethrower for two nights, so it doesn't automatically change owners each night.
The only reason for DDS to post that is if you've been recruited and lost the flamethrower.
Traf immediately sticking up for you makes me think that he's cult, but him trying to draw the BT makes me think he is not the recruiter, and he's trying to save the actual recruiter.

Re: The Thing! Day 1
So you think we should go for Charle, I am gathering because he lied in a previous game and you think he might lie again here because he was the first one to ask for a blood test. I follow the logic. I think it’s worthwhile to check it out. I would like to hear from LC before I switch my vote if I’m going to.
The way I look at it is we don’t have any information until people give it to us or we ask for it through something like a blood test. LC you haven’t given me anyone else to consider yet. I think it’s true since Charle asked for a blood test it’s definitely possible they’re trying to raise some cover. I do like this flurry of activity. Hopefully we can keep it up lol

Bunny right now between giving you my straight answer and arguing the game theory with Sonic I'm blinded by the headlights.
But my straight answer is BT Sonic

Re: The Thing! Day 1
I can't see I personally tend to find a lot of logic in the majority of Loose's game-theory posts - not sure they're well-founded or posited in a way that helps town over scum. That said, I also don't think LC would be my night 0 convert so BT Charle.

Good old Charles opened D1 with a superfast BT vote Loose and the only reason was “why not / free pass while we look for scum.” That’s not a read. That’s a big spotlight. Pointing the spotlight away from himself..
Then when asked why him, Charle’s next move wasn’t to defend the vote. It was to ask if I recruited Loose. So: again : point first, then imply the person questioning it is already in on it. That is classic “look there, don't look at me". How stupid would the Things be to do that. Town Charles would know, but a Thing lawyer would say exactly that on D1.
What i realy find a bit strange is he also can’t remember (allegedly) the last Thing game he was actually MacReady (with the FT) in. Fine, memory fades fast i suppose.. But you don’t get to forget the setup completely? Every opportunity Charles got he was acting as The Things best lawyer sowing a bit of doubt, not once giving advice on how the previous game worked..keeping town as much in the dark as possible.
Loose I still think is town. Annoying town at the moment. The “don’t lynch a positive BT, get fancy with FT instead” plan is a 2% lottery ticket dressed up as a fancy winning theory. That’s just Loose Goose, not Thing.
If one of the Things is talkative today, it’s Charle. Because Thing lurkers blend in later.
So If Charle's BT is clean, we move and lynch a lurker on D1 i say. + Mcready to torch tonight.

Re: The Thing! Day 1
Ive changed my mind on who id most like to see have a BT since voting.
Right now its kong.
Hjelp is also in the mix with sonic and kong though.
Kong1 and sonic2 are both up the top of having demonstrated memorable winning abilities as both town and mafia. Sonic has this game experience.
Hjelp fits the bill as memorable winning ability too.
My thinking is best bt right now is whoever most og would be things would be most likely to have recruited
Fpd by sonic theres a mix of things i disagree with and agree with there.
Votes on me and charle have disconcerted me.

Re: The Thing! Day 1
it doesn't have to be a situation where either of you converted the other. it's entirely possible you're the OG Thing and converted someone else. or it's even more possible (8/10 possible..) that you aren't the OG or the convert and we're wrong. but that's the hand we're dealtLoose Canon wrote: Wed Sep 23, 2026 4:23 pm Ok

as for the argument about how gameplay mechanics work.. can we ask DDS to clarify? simpler than trying to speculate.. if he'll give us that info?
DDS?? please?

My question was if on a given night The Thing tries to infect the Flamethrower, and the Flamethrower tries to Torch the Thing does the Flamethrower get infected?

There isn’t much to do D1 than a BT and a lynch. I would like a lynch D1 for the positive BT since how do we know if there are two Things already? This is not the old game.

Re: The Thing! Day 1
If DDS had said the other way around, my argument that following a positive blood test, best to lynch ANO first then let flamethrower do its action would definitely be wrong.
If it wasn't for the deferred conversion mechanism that was in the previous game my argument would be correct.
The deferred conversion or the prospect of it if this game the same as the first (not guaranteed in this game because reading just postgame from last game DDS was saying he didn't like some aspects) means its a matter that i don't think is clearcut or provable or demonstrably provable.
My gut is I'm right and Sonic and others are not, and it might be the flamethrower holder actually agrees with the lynch choice.
If the flamethrower holder (without revealing) does agree with lynch choice this would negate argument that flamethrower holder is flamed first by deferred conversion.
I also prefer the idea of seeking agreement on lynching to win to the idea of flamethrower holder sole burden.
Other thing I really want to say is I think players have to tear up anything they think they have learned about playing these games from previous mafia games and BLUESKY think and state what they BLUESKY think
