Only if the patients have given consent in advance, and there is no hope of recovery.

Too much emphasis is placed on keeping people alive at all costs until the last possible moment; there's clearly a line beyond which no meaningful "life" is going to be possible, so why waste perfectly good organs that can be used to help others?

We euthanize our dogs because we see it as inhumane to keep them alive once their health has degraded to the point that it's nothing but suffering to carry on.

But we still see it as a crime to do that for human members of our family.

I totally agree. The main sticking point unfortunately is inheritance, which leaves any euthanasia open to abuse for gain by the unscrupulous. Still, the UK finally has a bill which is heading towards allowing it; it's just a shame for those who suffered hitherto that it's too late for them.
