---------------------------I remember good times back in the day.......Parades on Vernor Ave(Southwest ,Detroit,MI...They stopped in the Mid 1980's A.D...THE DETROIT RIVER FIREWORKS....Watching them from a Freeway overpass(cat walk),for people....I-75.......But HEART PLAZA in Downtown Detroit...Was Full of FUN....Detroit Police/Fire Fighters would have a tug of war across the river with their Canadian counterparts....Just all kinds of fun between the 2 countries...NBC's TODAY SHOW WEATHERMAN WILLARD SCOTT WOULD ALWAYS COME......He did people's 100th birthdays on the Today show....During the weather forecast ....SMUCKER'S JAM PRO MOs/Commercials.....Kind of like someone I know about birthdays ...... I know Detroit, as I had a close friend (passed away) in Detroit and my in-laws lived in the suburbs in the 80s and 90s. White flight in the 70s and 80s destroyed the tax base of Detroit.
By the way, the DC Fair is a loss, no one has seen a loss with lousy ratings as the 250 year celebrations. Trump and his low ratings is a laughing stock of the world.

For the local celebration, I made 14 lbs of my famous potato salad, which disappeared very quickly, to the extent that someone had been literally scaping the bowl.
I had intended to make a gooseberry and coconut crepe cake, but since it required 30 crepes which I had neither the time nor the patience to make, I ordered with my delivery order.
They delivered only one pack of 10, so I improvised by chucking in some sponge fingers, chocolate, and toasted coconut for a topping. It looked a bit of a mess but was also wolfed down - I didn't even get a chance to taste it.
