------------------------Many know it as a Massacre of The 7th Calvary.....A Custer blunder.....BUT IT was actually , a win for Custer, he did what he wanted to....

-------------------------In that Area...The Black Hills...There were 3 units....o The U.S. Military keeping Gold seekers from going into Indian(Native American) Land...Which would break a Treaty Between The USA and Indians.......Custer's 7th Calvary....2 Infantry Units 1500 men each....Crooke's Infantry and Terry's Infantry.....
------------------------- The Indians hated Custer(Yellow Hair), because he killed women and children...Which added to the battle...
------------------------- So Sitting Bull , Crazy Horse...10,000 united Indians defending their Sacred Burial Grounds from Gold Seekers...Would 1st smash Crooke's Infantry...Crooke and about 500 of his men , fled their battle with the Indians...Back to Bismark ....Crooke with his tail between his legs....A true coward....

--------------------------During the battle, at the Start...The Indians sent a little force towards Custer...He chased them...The He stopped...Seen in front of him a huge number of Indians, also on each side of his troops....He could of went back the way he came....But he was there to give The Indians a black eye, bloody nose...To slow them down...To save Terry...The Same way The Alamo, slowed The Mexicans Down, Giving The Texas Army a chance to win....
-------------------------- During The battle...Custer split his forces into 3...Major Reno and his force would be halted and slowed on a hill , Capt, Benteen and his force would join Reno, as the tried to save their troops, the wounded who couldn't retreat....Custer was fighting his Last Stand...The Indians stopped fighting Reno's forces...Headed for The Custer fight....The Indians hated Custer , because he killed women and children...

Initially, the U.S. government and American press framed the battle as a heroic, tragic "sacrifice" of Lt. Col. George Custer and his 210 men in the name of the American West's expansion. For a century, the site was officially known as the Custer Battlefield National Monument, honoring only the soldiers who died.
Today, historians do not view the battle as a deliberate sacrifice on either side. Instead, it is recognized as a major clash of cultures where Native Americans were defending their ancestral lands from the U.S. government's forced relocation.
The Native Perspective: It was a desperate and successful defense of their people and way of life against the encroaching cavalry.
The U.S. Perspective: It resulted from tactical miscalculations. Custer severely underestimated the size of the Native encampment and prematurely attacked without waiting for backup.
To reflect the full scope of what happened, the site was renamed the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in 1991, and a dedicated Indian Memorial was constructed to honor the sacrifices made by the tribes.

From a modern perspective, there's nothing to celebrate in the destruction of the Native American way of life - any more than there's any reason to celebrate what the western European colonising powers did. One has to understand the time and not vilify people who were only doing what they thought was right and normal for the time, but in retrospect it's not a reason to celebrate now.
