I was debating whether this should go into suggestions or discussions - I put it in discussions, but no-one replied, so here it is.
On a map such as New World, it's possible to bombard a territory from the homeland and eliminate the troops there, render it neutral, and get spoils.
On one's next turn, one can bombard that 1 neutral territory again, and as long as the dice are in one's favour, one can get spoils again.
This doesn't seem right to me.
One hasn't changed the number of troops or the ownership of the territory, yet one is rewarded with spoils, having not made any progress to earn them.
I understand that it's a valid tactic and perhaps an interesting variation - but should the game require some sort of change before getting a reward, either ownership or number of troops (or both)?
My suggestion would be that bombarding an area that's already 1 neutral should not produce spoils.
Should bombarding but not capturing grant spoils?

I truly do enjoy the fact that you did sooo much work to defend your idea here.
But I do apologize since Ive got to be the one to first tell you that this one will sit in the suggestions thread and most likely be overlooked for some time.
There are way too many maps where it is simply the strategy to bombard that 1 for 5 or so rounds, maybe even more, before moving out of your own area..
And without the ability to claim those cards from bombarding, it would be a dead end setting to use cards and people would have to attempt to break through larger neutral stacks to keep getting cards.
It would.simply destroy gameplay for Soo many different maps.
I mean I'm it's a valid suggestion, but I don't think you'd ever get enough support as it would mess up Soo many different strategic layouts..
especially for Feudal and those same type conquest and conquering maps.

WHY have pictures that were always fine to fit in as avatars, no longer good? Players that have been on here for decades are gettin' pissed. But at least I have one in place, although Im not able to change it. I will have 20 years on this site in November.....but if the site keeps going downhill.......get on it, or I may not celebrate 21 years here.

That's what suggestions are, though - ideas that may or may not be popular or worthwhile, and have pros and cons. I don't mind if people reject a suggestion, as long as they do it with respect and sensible reasons.
I'm sure those who use this tactic would see it as a change for the worse, those who are beaten by it would see it as a change for the better.
Sadly, my other idea - about pinning notes to self - received universal support from those who commented, but that hasn't got anywhere either

It is filled with volunteers.
And I guess since I made an uproar over people volunteering for something should own the responsibility of said something the moment they agree to volunteer.
Also said a few things about being compensated for something, even if it's miniscule, that turns it from a volunteer position to a semi paid position.
Yeah, I doubt I'll be getting support or responses from many of the moderation team. Lol.
But, on another note....
Have you gotten to enjoy that premium membership any yet?
Should have about a month left on it as of now. Not exactly sure but I can look at the date on it later if needed.

And to you, my apologies, but shouldn't you have started your own thread on the matter instead of crashing someone else's?
Also, that's something you might can post in bug reports. Maybe there was an announcement on the change and one of the moderation team can help you with it from there with finding it?
Maybe even help you find out how to reformat your image for it to work?
Meh, hopefully someone can help you there.

Re: Should bombarding but not capturing grant spoils?
I am enjoying the premium, thanks
You're right, there's about a month left. Got a fair bit going on at the moment though, so I probably won't be renewing over the summer. I'll have to see where I am next winter.
Re: Should bombarding but not capturing grant spoils?
Perhaps this could be an option that people could choose in the create game settings.
Bombardments: give spoils… No Spoils.
I know of at least 2 maps where there are territories that you can bombard but cannot actually conquer if you are bombarding them. WWII Western Front for example, if you don’t start with any of the three UK positions you can only win by bombarding the hell out of them. So in those cases I think Spoils are 100% acceptable!

Re: Should bombarding but not capturing grant spoils?
The rule about bombarding those that are already at 1 neutral still applies though - once a territory has been bombarded successfully, I don't think one should get spoils for bombarding it again and therefore not progressing the game.TotoroHat wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2026 1:43 pm Perhaps this could be an option that people could choose in the create game settings.
