This week several dozen Venezuelan nationals were transferred from a U.S. immigration detention center in south Texas and boarded a deportation flight to their home country.

Among them was 39-year-old Jose Barco, a decorated American soldier who deployed twice to Iraq, saw horrific combat and received a Purple Heart after an explosion tossed him through the air and left him with a traumatic brain injury.

He was just four years old when his family left Venezuela,
Barco deployed to Iraq in the summer of 2004 with a unit from Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was a private with Charlie Company, from the 1st Battalion of the 506th Regiment. His unit was in western Iraq, at a time of fierce fighting against insurgent forces and car bombs. While Barco was on patrol in November with his platoon, a car laden with explosives swerved and went airborne, erupting in flames.

Ryan Krebbs was the company medic. As he was treating a wounded soldier amid the dust and smoke, he spotted Barco lifting the front end of the burning car, which had two soldiers pinned underneath it. "They were unconscious when he pulled them out," Krebbs remembered. "[Barco] was on fire after lifting the car."

Barco said he remembered none of that, only being thrown against a wall.

"I kind of remember the impact of the explosion," Barco told the PBS series Frontline, which aired a story in 2010 about his unit called The Wounded Platoon. "They told me I was just walking around. Walking around in circles or whatever, just cursing out loud. But I don't remember that."

Barco was treated for burns to his hands and thigh, as well as a lacerated lip. But Frontline reported there was no record that he lost consciousness for several minutes or any suspicion of a possible brain injury. So Barco soon received further treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas for burns but no treatment for traumatic brain injury (TBI).
"I distinctly remember Jose Barco completing and submitting his application for United States citizenship," Hutchinson wrote in a February 2025 memo for immigration officials. "He was fully eligible and with processing timelines at USCIS at the time should have been approved by the end of calendar year 2006. … At some point the packet was lost and we have not been able to find a chain of custody document."

DUk, I have never denied that there are MANY immigrants who are good citizens. I have said so. Perhaps you posted that to dampen the OVER-reaction of SOME.

What I want Duk to acknowledge is that there are CRIMINALS among the immigrants, HARD** criminals, and not just those who merely crossed the border as their ONLY illegal act. They may be FEW, even VERY FEW, but the FEW does point to the NEED To better control flow into this country and NOT have OPEN borders as BIDEN PERMITTED. Biden did permit too many in and certainly SOME who came in under Biden's failed policies are hard criminals.

** Hard criminals I am defining as those guilty of violent crimes: rape, murder, assault, and violent robberies, and more mayhem,

I've never denied it, but if it will make you happy, I will gladly acknowledge that there are criminals among the immigrants. Of course there are. There are bad apples in every basket.

Why? If the statistics show that immigrants tend to be more law-abiding than the locals, why not let the immigrants stay and deport the locals?

That's not a serious proposal, but maybe it will make you think.

Sure, there are some nasty criminals among immigrants, as there will be in any group you choose to name. There are some nasty criminals among insurance salesmen. Should we demonize insurance salesmen and deport them en masse? There are some nasty criminals among red-headed pregnant teenagers. Should red-headed pregnant teenagers be rounded up and herded into concentration camps? There are some nasty criminals among owners of Volkswagens. Does it logically follow that all Volkswagen owners should have their lives destroyed?

Of course I get your point, Duk. I always have. btw: You admitted that I NATION SHOULD have control over who enters that nation.

And of course there are "bad apples" in any basket; I never denied or disuputed that point, Duk.

I have criticized Democrats, especially the BASICALLY WIDE Open US-Mexico border under Biden, and with the support of Kamala, who DID ALMOST nothing to help fix the issue.

And I never said DEPORT THEM ALL, NOT all immigrants. We need a massive legal overhaul of the border situation and path to citizenship to deserving folks in the US. AND deport and/or imprison those who are CRIMINALS, Hard criminals (or Hardened Criminals) as I said earlier. Imprison those convicted and deport those who are charged. I would argue we lock up the WORST of the Worst and get them out of open Society of ANY nation, or send them to CECOT in El Salvador. That to me is appropriate.

I will say again that the USA cannot allow JUST ANYONE into this country, no matter their economic status or desires. We need to control the flow into the USA (and I think Duk supports that). And Biden and his DHS Sec. Mayorkas did NOT control that flow.

Well, you may not have said it, but you keep on cheering the people who do.

I haven't seen you acknowledge that a majority of those deported are NOT criminals.

I haven's seen you show any sympathy for the hundreds of thousands of people who have had their lives ripped apart by the cruelty of ICE.

I haven't seen you express any remorse for those who have been wrongfully deported, or those who have been beaten and abused in custody, or those who were murdered for simply protesting these vicious thugs.

You may not have called for this to happen, but you voted for the people who promised you that it would, and you haven't expressed any regrets.

CORRECTED
Biden sets presidential record on pardons and clemency

Presidential pardons and commutations granted while in office
Estimated as of Jan. 21, 2025; Includes all terms served

President Biden on Monday added to his record for the most pardons and sentence commutations in a single presidential term when he issued preemptive pardons to protect his family and others before leaving office.

As of early 2026, Donald Trump has issued over 1,600 pardons in his second term, with a major action pardoning over 1,500 January 6th participants, placing him among the most prolific users of clemency in modern history. This approach differs from his first term (238 acts of clemency) and contrasts sharply with the lower, more traditional pardon rates of predecessors like Biden and Obama.

Trump's Pardon Numbers (Cumulative & Second Term)
Second Term Action (2025-2026): Trump began his second term by granting clemency to over 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
Comparison to Recent Presidents: While Obama issued 212 pardons over eight years, and Biden issued 80 over four years, Trump's second-term actions in their first year alone exceeded these totals.
Total Output: Including his first term, Trump has used his pardon power to override roughly
billion in restitution payments and penalties, a rate that far exceeds modern, often lower, historical averages.

Contextual Factors
Timing: Unlike many presidents who issue the majority of their pardons at the very end of their term, Trump has used them on a rolling basis, often targeting political allies or specific criminal justice cases.
Average Frequency: During his first term, Trump was considered conservative with pardons, issuing fewer than most modern presidents, but his second-term actions significantly altered his overall standing.

The massive volume of second-term pardons, particularly regarding the January 6th defendants, makes his total usage rate high compared to the 80-year average of modern presidents, which is roughly 9,000 across 14 presidents.

We are discussing the topic of Biden Pardons in THIS thread? Oh, because pack rat, OBVIOUSLY suffering from TDS, wants to HIJACK another thread to spread his lies, filth, and stench about Trump.
President BIDEN personally pardoned 4200 criminals.
So the pack rat's previous post is full of LIES, or, at best, Obfuscation, (and for the self-loathing Dung Heap dweller, pack rat), that MEANS misleading and confusing information.

I cite my source; pack rat apparently does not or cannot do so properly.

https://www.axios.com/2025/01/17/biden- ... ncy-record

and
Executive summary
President Joe Biden granted a historic total of individual acts of clemency — 4,245 pardons and commutations over his term — and used large-scale proclamations and mass commutations in his final weeks, including commutations for nearly 2,500 people and pardons for thousands convicted of simple marijuana possession [1] [2] [3]. The Justice Department and White House records list multiple discrete pardons and commutation rounds between 2022 and January 19, 2025; independent analyses (Pew, NPR) and official lists document that Biden’s clemency count exceeds any prior president on record [1] [4] [3]. (...)

2. Major single-day and mass actions that drove the total

Biden’s final weeks featured multiple large clemency actions that sharply increased his totals. On January 17–19, 2025, the White House announced commutations for approximately 2,490 people and earlier Dec. 12, 2024, action commuted nearly 1,500 sentences — moves described by the White House and press outlets as among the largest single-day uses of clemency in modern history [3] [5] [4]. Those mass commutations, along with proclamations pardoning thousands for simple marijuana possession, materially boosted his overall count [1] [4].

Trump has pardoned some 2,500 fewer Folks. That gap is bigger that the number Trump pardoned (about 1,800), from these same sources. Even Biden's White House staff admitted to this HUGE set of Pardons.

and Biden pardoned THESE people; I wonder WHY?
