Friend cannot log in; UTF-8 characters in user name broken

Hi there,
my colleague https://www.conquerclub.com/player.php? ... _id=621236 can no longer log in since the site crash. Password reset does not work.
When I try to invite him, the system says "Invite Failure: Invalid email format". It worked fine before.

Also, his user name "Tüdelü" now appears as T�del�, pointing at some encoding problem.
Email and password did not contain any special characters.

Admins, you can contact me via private message for his email.

The bug says... The database restore was not successful

How you shouldn't migrate from obsolete and unsupported MySQL 5.X to 8.4. There is a breaking change for utf8 columns.

Unless there's some deeply integrated immutable hash id built off of the original unsafe name, this should be a tractable problem. Something like:

• Manually change the username to something unambiguously safe that doesn't collide with other names
• Update any linked tables that might contain or be keyed off the old name.
• Login with new name and old password, or reset as normal.
• If games are lost as a result, manually adjust scores and ranks--gift a subscription to the person or people harmed.
