only now? The decline has been worrying for years. Not unexpected, though. The slight rise mid November was more surprisingDavie.K wrote:3,926 ...The decline heading into these snowy days is worrying now.
Running scoreboard only counts players if they completed 20 games in a month. It therefore doesn't count most new players (who are more likely to start as freemium to check the game out), nor does it count active players who intentionally keep their game count limited (I've never appeared on the running scoreboard, despite definitely being an active player in the last year). But if you lose ~1500 players (the difference between January 2022 and now on the normal scoreboard) who each play a few games a month, that's still a lot less games getting filled, and a lot less opponents for the very active players on the running scoreboard.sdh wrote:From Running scoreboard...As long as active players stay around 1000 the total number on the scoreboard shouldn't make a huge difference?

3,889 .... Do you remember the good old days before the ghost town?
We danced and sang, and the music played in a de boomtown
This is the lowest recorded number. It seems we are incling.
That's not quite what I'm saying. I'm saying that, even if we were to make it above 1000 in the coming 2 weeks, there will be a month where we won't make it above 1000 next year, and that it's likely that there will NOT be a month were we will make it above 1000 in 2025.Davie.K wrote:So Michael if I'm reading it correct what you're saying...is that as I write we are on 704 and have exactly 2 weeks to make it above 1,000 ?

Is it too early to see that?
It's too early to see that as the Discord is currently too small to attract in people from outside naturally. We need 1000 members to become "discoverable" on the Discord app itself. Discord is bringing that number down periodically (I think it started at 5,000)), so we might get there. At the moment, growing the server will be through word of mouth with members inviting their friends to come play a game or three.
I think the benefit to the site, and players, will be the ability to more easily arrange games with friends, especially real time games, since Discord is also a phone app. It was created for the existing player base, and if it results in an uptick in new members, that would be fantastic of course.
I've personally been using Discord for 8 years maybe and I play different board games with my friends from time to time.
I love the idea but it is -by itself- not gonna turn things?
Look, imagine your 16-26 years old and you join CC to check things out..
It's overwhelming? 200 maps to learn while the new kid expects a speedgame? Cut those 200 down to the best 20 maps with a nice tutorial for each and present (sell) the 24 hour game move better to hook em?
8 billion people out there..
