Mr. Moody of course... I used to log into my work computer every morning and first thing I would do is open up CC chat and Moody was always there every morning.
Yeah it really was a different site back then.

brandoncfi is better suited for the details, but my memory was:

Players in groups of 8 (I think the first one was 8 entrants, future versions were 64) played an 8-player escalating game on every map, simultaneously. Back then it was like 100-something simultaneous games but now it would be 255. Whoever won the most games won the tournament, or in the later editions you had to win your group then do it a second time.

It was an incredible challenge, because you'd go 3-7 days without taking a single turn then have a day where you had 100 in a row. Winning the games was only half the challenge, balancing your time and workload and managing the order you played turns was very difficult (especially when games were ending and you needed to prioritize the games where you couldn't cash and run to clear them quickly then take your time with the winning runs).

Huge amount of work for the TO and huge amount for all the players, which is what made it great.

to run that now would need something like 8 games at a time gradually going through all the maps i think.

I would bring "twill" and "wicked" back and all the other 20,000 players that were active 15 years ago.

Now we have Platinum Medals that can't be achieved with the amount of players on this site.

We have maps that are in Beta for many many years. And no new maps anymore.

We have simple 8 player Tournaments for Events, that can't be properly filled.

And then the fact that you constantly face the same opponents on the same maps.

Where did it all go wrong? Or am I getting old and grumpy and thinking that in the past everything was better?

You're not wrong.

Used to be a piece of cake to fill a 32-player tournament. Now you have to spam half the country.

Here are a few that haven't been mentioned:

Robinette
brkryk17 - Kind of an unknown but one of the first team partners I had on the site.
Woffystyle
firstholliday
trapyoung
Foxglove
Deli
Pedronicus - He painted me the coolest sig. Getting rid of that sig was the hardest part of leaving TOFU.

I think I've played a handful of doubles with you, but I've played more doubles with ahunda than anyone else. Maybe you need to start playing doubles with me? (later, after your family visit is over) :D

^this + JOHNNYROCKET24, some of my RL friends like Maisel002, Abita Man Can, Tortmaster, Quintarious, Jaber, CatGar, and some others whose game names I can't recall. I could probably get Maisel and maybe Abita to play again, since I work with them every day. Hell, I just played my first game in YEARS yesterday . . .
