The elusive Aurora Borealis.

Postby 2dimes on Thu Apr 28, 2022 3:27 am

On occasion you can watch the dancing lights from just past my wife's front door step.

Unfortunately every time last yea it was any good I missed it. Now the earth is tilting and it makes it seem like mr sun is heading north. That phenomena will soon cause 24 hour light up north, that will wash the pretty light show away for summer.

You will soon be able to enjoy aurora australis down unda.

If you're up right now you can watch a little but on this web cam but it's not visible from the lawn in front of my wife's house.

If I show up, do I get a free meal, or two? I prefer NO seal and no Walrus, either.

What kind of wine do I bring for the planned meal?

All I know for certain is, the only Auroras I have seen in the last year, were on web cams, pictures, or videos.

The web cams and videos have just been at my wife's house as as far as I can recall.

I probably have seen pictures somewhere else.

Live I mostly seen them outside.

Me too. I can't think of any I like that are indoors.

The one in that link has been the best I found for Aurora Borealis in the last few months.

Most of the web cams I look at are weather/cloud related. I found one on Bourbon Street that was interesting during the last hurricane. Kind of surprising how many people were out riding bicycles and wandering around.

BC drives has a bunch on the mountain highways. I was checking them while attempting to convince my wife to go to Revelstoke for the weekend. She doesn't love Revelstoke as much as I do, plus she figured we would get snowed in for too many days. They always plow the highway snow, but Rogers pass can close for a day or two fairly regularly.

I've never seen the Aurora indoors.

Mind you, there were some acid trips that came close.

I've seen it in Assassin's Creed a bunch, not in the offline world though.

I think they have been somewhat viewable from Scotland this last year. Though It might be even cloudier there than at my wife's house. Like many celestial things clouds tend to be the biggest obstacle to seeing it.

I have seen them out the kitchen window, but it's much better to go outside on the rare occasion they are visible here.

the offline world

Do you mean in Real Life (i.e., with your own eyes, in the actual sky, and not on a computer or electronic monitor)?

Glad to see my boomer trap still works. And I didn't even have to fill it with Werther's Originals!

I forgot about this thread.

So the coronal mass ejected recently was responsible for the best Aurora in quite sometime. Both Borealis and Australus. It was reported that on the 10th Borealis was visible as far south as Texas. That's epic.

I missed the peak but was on the phone with my bro. then I got out of bed, I couldn't see them from the yard here at Har's house so I picked up my bro and we drove out of town to watch them for a while.

They were kind of disappointing compared to the last time I watched them from the front lawn.

And I thought of an indoor web cam I like. They took it down but here's the archive.

Way back when I used to drive cab, there was another driver who used to hand out Werther's Originals to all his passengers. Kind of a stupid trademark, but apparently it worked.

One night, a bunch of super hot university chicks were getting into my cab. One of them looks at me and her face lights up. "Oh, it's the Werther's Guy!" she happily shrieked. Then she had a closer look, and with a downfallen looks she says sadly, "Oh, you're not the Werther's Guy."

I've never liked Werther's, but I considered getting some after I saw her reaction.

That why these younger gals are great, they don't need much to be impressed.

I used to quite like Werther's, I wouldn't have sucked off a cabbie for one though.

Ok, a couple of questions.

How many Werther's would that have cost? Or was that a variation of, "What would you do for a Klondike?"
