Tournament is set to begin; one non-responsive team will be replaced by a Best-of-1, elimination map between the 2 reserved teams.

Once all 9 tournaments have been decided and we have our 18 teams for the Major, we will begin by splitting the teams into 2 groups of 9 for a Group Stage round. Each team will choose their own maps (no Beta maps) and settings for this round (map selection may be changed for Bracket round), and play a round robin of 2 games against each member of their group (one of each teams map/settings). Each win shall give a team 1 point; at the end of the round robins, two teams will be eliminated, determined by whoever has the lowest score in each group. These points will also be used to determine seeding for Bracket Play!

Bracket play will begin with 2 brackets, with slightly different paths to the grand finals! Teams with seedings 1-8 shall advance to the upper bracket (UB), while teams 9-16 shall advance to the lower bracket (LB).

UB will play 3 rounds of best of 3's to advance to the grand finals; higher seeding will have 2 games with their map/settings, while lower seed will have only 1. Each time a team loses in UB, they are dropped into the LB.

LB is more complicated, teams that lose in the lower bracket are eliminated from the tournament. LB shall start with a sudden death round, playing a best of 1 to see who advances, with higher seed getting to choose the map/settings. Round 2 shall begin the entry of the UB teams that were eliminated.

Just a quick question: after the round Robin phase, two teams will be eliminated, those with the lowest score in each group; regarding the 8 teams qualified for the Upper Bracket, will they be 4 from each group in the same manner, then seeded thanks to their score? Or do you plan on seeding the remaining teams alltogether, whichever their initial group was?

donche64, good question. After the two teams are dropped, 1 from each group, groups are dissolved. Seeding will be based on all remaining teams.

Thanks for your answer! I haven't checked each group results so far, but if you were looking for suggestions (if you wanted to organize such an event again), I think I would not dissolve the groups and qualify the top 4 teams from each group to the UB before proceeding to the seedings.

I hope it won't be the case, but imagine the extreme scenario where 3 teams go 0-2 against all the other teams in the group, while the other group is utterly balanced: you could end up having 6 teams qualifying for the UB from the first group mentionned, while only 2 from the latter, just because the group was more challenging and balanced. A bit unfair IMO! That was just my 2 cents

Okay not entirely true. ZaBeast/Unai & Donadellan/fred299299 matchup is at a tie 2-2, but it looks like Z/U have a pretty substantial lead in game 5. If they hold they've made it to the finals!

In the lower bracket, we still have 3 matchups left, including the losing team from the 2 above, before we get our 2nd finalist.
