Re: [CC8] Final: TOFU (11) vs LHDD (3)
As much as I genuinely want to get involved in the maths chat (the TOFU guys will back me up here... I'm not bloody kidding), there is something far more important.
kudos I think deserved from all for a sweep frog has just pulled out (with kudos to jaba for his support too).
Game 18644846
It might well be escalating sweep of the century. It's the sort of thing that happens one game in a thousand even for a top player. To do it in a CC final is next level. The Conquer Club equivalent of Zidane in the 2002 Champions League final (one for you Frenchies
)
Absolutely incredible. Not keen on talking about the luck involved, you definitely need a shred of luck in every escalating sweep so let's take that as a given, but I think it deserves a full round of applause that frog stood up to the plate and delivered a win where 99% of players wouldn't have even seen a possibility.
Big applause for frog, big supporting applause for jaba
(I'd like to take some credit, but I'll be honest I stopped looking at that game when I got taken out 3 days ago!).

What Zidane did in 02 was great. He probably could have done what Bale did, but the circumstances were different. You have to have the right pass to make that shot. Marcelo doesn’t get enough credit for the pass...a few inches lower or higher, a bit more swing or a bit less or more velocity to the pass and no goal.

You know... the only way you can find incredible a quads escalating finish; it’s because of incredible luck (once again). We are all big boys and we all know how to play escalating team games in defense and offense when rounds matter here.. it’s a final not a round 1..SCuD. wrote:As much as I genuinely want to get involved in the maths chat (the TOFU guys will back me up here... For antartica lol... 24% chances but hey.. that’s not luck, let’s just count the last rolls and not how we improbably reached that point with so little loss.
I’ve said it before, the dice will owe us a lot on batch 2.
This war continues to be a one ways fuckfest in terms of dice.

Re: [CC8] Final: TOFU (11) vs LHDD (3)
Actually, it was 29% (basically, once every 3 times I would succeed). But, that is not a complete story. FIrst, it was 50% for me to get a stack of 59 to the middle. So getting 69 was no miracle role. Had I gotten fewer to the middle, I could have easily taken out one of my teammates to get cards and complete the role. Again, no great/amazing luck. Of course you discard my 19 vs 11,2 failure as not part of the overall role. Also, you make no mention of Don's dice throughout the game as he sliced up the map at will.betiko wrote:

Betiko
Mate I know the CC final frays ones nerves but you are making some absurd statements , in the cold light of day you may well be embarassed by what you wrote.
Quite simply not every player is of an equal standard on certain settings , for example im certain that several of your Clan members would consistently thrash me at trench.
Anybody who has played on this site for any length of time recognises that games are won by a combination of good dice and skill , only the percentages of each change ,largely influenced by other factors ( drop , settings , skill differentials etc).
Now we all get runs of extremely unlucky dice , most of us curse loudly ( and kick the dog/cat , beat the wife , shout at the computer ) but the wise man keeps this abuse private.
Those who repeatedly whine publicly simply look like fools , come across as unsporting and create bad blood , its pretty silly.
Lets face it when we wish our opponents good luck we dont mean it , in truth we hope their dice stink , but we do it to be polite and create a pleasant environment.
Good Luck in your future games....ribbit

@loutil. 29 or 25% more or less the same story.
I agree that roll wasnt incredible luck. just see i am currently 0/5 on this war and I was bit annoyed when i saw me out on antartica hence my chat comment.
I know ur move was correct, knew the stats before u moved so i was expecting u to fail. got my hope up and went down. same for betiko as we discussed state of this game.
I disagree with some of your other statement on how it played out but doesnt matter much that one over let's talk about ongoing game.
@joe. Well played on Fnna. Saw the possibity and tried to prevent green kill. didnt expect u'd be able to get Jelo though. That's the great thing with escalating. it is never over. Lot of them in round 2 for me to try to get back at you

Thanks for the dignified and sporting response Don.

Well done frog, Well done mate!
It's moments like that, that make this game worth playing.
-That make all the time we spend here worth it.
Regarding the general discussion on luck;
Overestimating the impact of bad luck on ones losses, and skill when one wins is a great sign of weakness.
It is with increasing rarity I deem to respond to dice-whining.
In the end I saw that some people simply did not want to see rationality, nor seek the objective truth, but just sought excuses.
Thus, I shall oblige to leave the whiners to their misery and excuses.
And for those that truly have a difficult time with the role of luck in this game, may I suggest Chess?
But of course, many of said people wouldn't dream of playing a game without the comfortable cloak of luck. How else would they protect their egos from the harsh truth?

I cant look too much into the past just by looking at the log (and what I heard from others), but it seems that on the turn before the sweep, cyan neglected the possibility of a 3-card into sweep and forted his stack rather than going for an 9v3,1,2 to eliminate the possibility in its entirety (by removing blue next to green). Now I'm not saying those are sure-win chances... but as long as you get the 9v3,1 you had a defensive stack to "guard" green. That being said, I'm not a great escalating player and this is all in hindsight.betiko wrote: You know... the only way you can find incredible a quads escalating finish; it’s because of incredible luck (once again). Ok, enough about the pesky dice already! I want to know who is responsible for this, this, abomination! My siblings and I woke up this morning looking like this - someone in LHDD must be the miscreant!
